Separate Figure into multiple meshes

Hi, I want to separate my G8 figure into multiple meshes under the same fbx file, So I want Arms, Body, Legs, and Head to all be separate meshes that can be toggled on and off once imported into unity. Is there a good way to do this? I tried bringing it into 3ds and splitting the mesh up but then I lost animation functionality. My end goal is to have an fbx file with multiple meshes that can easily be enabled/disabled as needed for clothing or first-person view.
