So I'm just gonna kick a rock here.
I've got an iray render that's been stuck at 54% for THREE DAYS.
Yes, I have looked around to find out why. Talking about skin shadings and then going on for posts and posts about how wonderful the lighting is doesn't help.
No, seriously, I think I hate iray.... I've never gotten a single complete render out of it since it came out. Not a single one.
I M R kicking rocks and hating it now.

CPU or GPU?
if GPU what GPU and how recent are your drivers?
Thanks for responding to my pity me post. :-) I've stopped pitying myself cuz I had to go to work. LOL... but anyway...
This is the computer's system.
Windows 7 Home Premium
NVIDIA card: just updated the drivers today.
Daz 4.8 Pro
64 bit woo hoo
16 RAM
I'm not sure if I'm answering your question.
Since I posted that it got worse, though! I stopped the render and merged it with another in Paintshop to get something workable. And now DAZ won't even try to render. "Something failed in the render" everytime.
I'm facepalming. The system? It's 2 weeks old, thereabouts. Maybe a month at best. Just got the sucker from the "store" and everything.
I have tried finding iray tricks to speed things up and past all the "blah blah" talk it's just impossible to get anything out of anything. I saw a post where someone said there was a lot of documentation out there now. I was like... reallly? WHERE?!?!? LOL
I need a "for dummies" walk through. Experimentation can only go so far when you're literally getting nothing back to compare with!
The render configuration is dome and scene, but all turned off except floor. when it was stuck at 54% it was scene only.
3 spotlights
a house with windows emitting
two planes emitting a cloudy sky for light
I changed a setting I can't remember the name of right now (and can't look cuz I'm doing a drive check) from memory to speed.
Checked the advanced settings for optimization.
Didn't really change any of the other defaults.
I know the amount of lighting I'm using would mean a slower render, but...!
Unfortunately there are DOZENS of NVIDA cards that have or don't have the capability to work (My CUDA enabled GTS250 is DOA when I try it) Newer ones should, but it's also dependent on how much video RAM is on them.
To determine what card is in your computer
go to START>RUN>
type
dxdiag
click the display tab
screenshot or copy/paste that info into here.
also does it render in CPU mode? You may be hitting a RAM limit with your card or something else at this time.
If CPU renders and GPU (video Card) doesn't we need to look at the card
also, also the update from Windows and the update from Nvidia.com are not always the same update. For DS use you should go by what Nvidia has on their site, not Windows which is generally one or two versions behind the latest.
Stratdragon, you're making me shake in my boots! Tell me it isn't so! I have a GeForce GT 740. I updated directly from the company website, not through Windows.
I've never heard of a RAM limit before. So what happens exactly when I hit the RAM limit?
I'm sure it rendered in CPU. When I'd go to the advanced tab it would have CPU and the card selected. It detects automatically, correct?
Still can't render *anything* on the puter, though, as of today. Not. A. Thing. My DAZ is broken. And I notice they took away the setting where you could set what time of day it is in the renders... I was a bit bummed about that.
Take a deep breath...
Then power down the computer. Go have a cup of coffee...then reboot.
Then, grab the Nvidia driver version 352.86, dated May 18th and install it (that's the last one I KNOW works with Iray).
Ok, did you have that cup of coffee? I'm having mine, it's peppermint tea, there is a bear on the box, he apparently is too sleepy to maul anyone, which is good. If I switch to coffee I will drink it until I'm near death, then drink more.
Ok, about the card: The gt740 comes in both 1GB or 2GB configurations (you CAN NOT add more later BTW).
1 or 2GB RAM is going to be fine was long as you don't get too crazy with the scene. If you start adding multiple figures, high polly props everywhere you may hit a limit of what can be done with the RAM in the card and the rendering will switch to CPU and use the system RAM, slower but much more room if you have 16GB.
If you can't render after the updated drives MJ pointed you to then we need to look at some other things.
As for bummed I'd post a ticket on zen desk and see if they will bring back that option but it's been ages since I rendered using anything but Lux I'm not recalling it.
