V7 washes out in Reality 4. Help!

Hi All--I sure hope someone can help me. I'm the lady who is the brand new user of DS (which I'm loving) but I'm using Reality 4 with the new Daz Studio 4.8. I am also trying to use V7 with the basic textures (no iRay or SSS at this point). I am on a Mac with an ATI card so Iray doesn't work and I'm not happy with 3delight results. I've tried the Reality mesh lights and the IBL lights. The background props look great (a wall from DM) but V7's textures are really washed white. This is the first time I've tried Reality and I've looked at videos on the subject, but I cannot figure out why my dolly doesn't have any color when she renders in Lux 1.5. I need help! Perhaps there is a specular problem? If so, I don't know how to turn it down. Thanks in advance, Denise (I've attached an image, but I don't see it showing up here.)

I don't know what is causing your problem in Reality

Iray does not need an NVidia card to work, it can work in CPU mode without a card, that is how I use it.

i didn't know that. I just bought Reality, tho, and I would like to get it to work. I do like the output of the building and it is much faster than iRay. Thanks, Denise

Generally that's a wrong/missing IOR in the skin settings. It could also be a tonemapping/lighting problem. If you are using Linear tonemapping, try 'estimate settings' in the Luxrender UI...that will adjust the exposure settings to the lights, kind of like the auto exposure on a digital camera, except it will also leave them adjustable, unlike the AutoLinear option.

Thanks so much! I will try it. I know I'm asking a lot of questions, but I really appreciate the responses. I'm enjoying DAZ. Now to get a picture I can use. Denise

    Hi Denise :)

I'm a long time Reality user and there are Reality forums outside where people even more knowledgeable than I can help :-P

But just off the top off my head I'd say your problem is Lux 1.5: R4 (and even R2.5) are optimized and supported for LuxRender 1.3.1, and you can find that here :)

Heading off to work now but will check back when I can ;-)

Thanks, Jaime! I will download that version of LuxRender too. I have put the question out to other forums, but this is the only one that came through for me. I really appreciate it. Denise

You're very welcome, Denise; sent you a PM :)

Do you have a screen cap so I can see the R4 camera and light settings? That may help me answer your question.

I think the problem is the material settings in Reality. It has nothing to do with lights or types of lights since the background is rendering fine. The first thing I would check in Reality is to see if "Emission" is turned on on some of your material settings for the skin. This basically turns the surface into a low level light, which would most like make your "dolly" look the way she does.

    Check your materials in Reality.
