LoRez Horse Cart for DAZ Horse?

If anyone is getting the current LoRez Horse 2 bundle (https://www.daz3d.com/lorez-horse-2-bundle) with the great cart - https://www.daz3d.com/lorez-horse-two-wheel-cart -, could you maybe check whether there's any chance to adapt the tack and reins to DAZ horse 2? I like the set so much, but I have all kinds of stuff for the DAZ horse already, and also the Hivewire one, and I really don't feel like adding another horsey creature ...

Cheers! Tina

On second thought, maybe LoRez Horse 2 is basically the same as DAZ Horse 2, only with, well, lower resolution - ? If that were the case, then things would surely fit ...

  • I would doubt it used the same rigging as the daz Horse 2 - if it ddi that would probably be a feature mentioned on the product page.

  • the tack certainly won't fit but the cart itself may be able to be lined up with other tack for the appropriate horse unused parts hidden, there is also a cart for the lowrez pig

Thanks guys, I was afraid that'd be the answer crying. I have the pig and cart, too, they're really lovely as well. Might have to bite the bullet and buy the LoRez Horse then, the tack and all that is just too nice to pass ...

Here is my 10-minute, out-of-the-box test on this question (so apologies up front for the imperfections of the quickly assembled renders). Here's Daz Horse 2 with the cart.

With extremely minor twiddling on the x/y/z axis, you can get everything except the headstall in place. I find a similar situation with the rest of the tack.

The saddle requires only minor x/y/z tweaking (and here, a smidge of scaling) to achieve good-enough-for-art purposes. However, the full situation with the bridle (which similarly applies to the halter) is clear. This is how it is put on the horse figure out of the box. You can improve this with similar tweaking as the other parts of the tack, but eventually there's an issue with the fitting of the strap behind the ear and over the nose. I'm working on it, because I desperately want a halter as much as anyone.

For the record, here is the Daz horse with the LoRez horse superimposed for comparison.

There's no immediate interchangeability of textures from what I see so far.

I bought it, even tho I have the other two horses and a bunch of stuff for them, mostly because I'm a sucker for animals ;). Maybe now I can have a whole herd of horses that won't bring my computer to its knees. LOL I also thought the saddle and bags looked really nice (better than the now REALLY old one I have for DH2) and of course I love the cart ;).

Oh wow, thank you so, so much for sharing all this! So it's not hopeless at all! The tack even doesn't look too bad, nothing that couldn't be fixed with a simple morph or two. Great! If you achieve any more of these good results, be sure to share again!

@AllenArt, I know, I'm such a fiend for animals, too, 3d and otherwise ;-) So I will probably get the LoRez Horse in the end (it does look quite nice in the direct comparison, I must say, although there, DAZ Horse is in it's base form of course, without any add-ons) - but I definitely want to be able to use the gear and stuff for the 'normals' horse as well. And now it looks like we can! yes

  • if I bought it I probably could create a clone but we are are not allowed to redistribute those, not even Predatron can unless they make a separate cart for the DAZ horse

I totally agree - I was expecting much more of a mismatch between the Daz horse and the LoRez tack, and was pleasantly surprised.

Now, these examples are with a default Daz horse at 0/0/0. I'm newish to Daz so I'm not sure why, but there are different oddites about fitting these tack items. They parent to the Daz horse if you select him, then load the tack..When parented to the Daz horse, the saddle follows movement of the Daz horse, including rotating. It does not follow with posing of the horse, so if you pose the Daz horse, you have to manually fix the saddle. If unparented, the saddle doesn't do anything (as I'd expect). The bridle, when parented, similarly follows the horse on movement, but when the horse is posed, it stays in the same spot but pivots on a rotational axis. If you unparent the bridle from the Daz horse, it continues to follow in the same way - staying in one X/Y/Z spot, but rotating around on the X/Y/Z axis to follow some point on the horse that it's no longer parented to. That I didn't expect. Why would it still be following the horse in any way after being unparented from it?

As to the horses themselves, I haven't done a seriously intended scene with them together yet but my first impression is that you could reasonably use the LoRez horse in a scene with a Daz horse. They're similarly scaled, though differently conformed by default. FWIW, I think that the LoRez horse is taller and chunkier; the Daz horse is leaner and more refined. I haven't done enough testing of LoRez horse and his textures to have a definitive opinion on how the two horse figures look standing next to each other, in the various textures available for each. Interestingly - if not especially useful - if you try Daz (or Mil) horse poses on LoRez horse, it moves the head. (LoRez poses don't work at all on the Daz horse.)

3djoji was working on a harness for DAZ Horse 2 but I don't know what the current status is:

This is a proof of concept more than finished work, but I wanted to share. Joint Editor appears to be a solution to the problem of fitting the LoREZ tack to Daz Horse 2.

All of the tack for the head - the halter, the bridle and the harness - have a problem that you can see in the original screen shots. You just can't get them to fit reasonably on Daz Horse. I used Joint Editor to correct that, then saved the tack as a wearable to reload. The resulting objects are squirrelly to work with - they don't follow poses and you have to finagle them into position as soon as you use them on a Daz horse with any sort of pose applied. In fact, you may even have to do further adjustments with Joint Editor depending on the interplay of the tack and the pose, as is the case with the bridle in the second image. But, it can work. I expect that this technique should work with the cart harness, but, well, it's a work night and I ran out of time to test.

    Halter:

    Bridle:

Honest admission: If I were serious about this render, I'd redo the bridle. This pose isn't even that extreme in terms of the head positioning, but it just isn't a good fit and I need to do more work with the Joint Editor. Still, it can work, and considering that I'd never even heard of Joint Editor before this evening, it shows that it's within reach of even newish Daz users like me.

@paulawp, wow, you've really done such a lot of work on this already! Just a thought, is the tack rigged by any chance? I'd think it should be, because it's like a piece of clothing for the horse. So then after fitting it to DAZ Horse, could you not bake joint rotations and then use the transfer utility to transfer the rigging from an old Horse 2 tack to the LoRez one? That should be doable. I'll be getting the cart and all today or tomorrow, maybe I'll have time to fiddle a bit myself then.

  • if you bake rotations just changing scene identification would work

I didn't know that, with clothes, I always transfer the rig after baking. Sounds right though! - Now I'd REALLY love to buy the cart today and start playing with it, but the buy-in for the freebies is still ridiculously high - 15 bucks instead of the 5 it was in the beginning of the sale. Not cool with that, so no sale again from me today. Hopefully, they'll start seeing sense again soon.

Thanks. I was amazed by the possible expressions, partially showed off in the promos.

That is why, he entered to my Daz contents.

Just to give a little love to the LoRez horse himself ... I found a few minutes today to create a little something with him.

Cool renders, everyone! @Artini, you mean the clay render of the four-wheeled version? Yeah, saw that too, was a bit disappointed at first because I thought it was included - a little note or something on the picture would have been smart. But it looks very nice nevertheless, and useful! As Predatron stuff usually is laugh

  • so why is a 4 wheel version shown?

(not buying at this point as don't use the ones I have)

No, I am amazed by the quality of expressions available for LoRez Horse 2.

I have not explored the cart yet and have not noticed its four-wheeled version, as well.

I have the bundle and there is no 4 wheeled cart (unless I'm missing it). I have no idea why it was included in the promos. I suppose we'll see it sometime later in the sale. A little disappointed, but it's not a deal-breaker.

That's weird - it was in the promo as recently as around midnight last night, because I went back and looked myself as a result of the exchange on this thread. But I don't see it there now. It was late for me, but iirc, there was one page with two four-wheeled cart items - I think one looked a bit like a jail cart.

Maybe it was one of the Vintage Carriages?

It WAS there last night around 3 am eastern. Both clay render carts were in the same image. And yeah...one was a prisoner's cart.

No, the prisoner's cart looked more like the cage cart in the original Planet Of The Apes ;).
