hi all

can anyone help with renders in iRay, my mirrors won't work and the speed is soooo slow, attached is a simple test render the result of one that took just under 60 mins using Summer with Leyton Hair, no lights as I have tried it with lights using cpu or my GeForce GT 640

Thanks in anticipation

I don't know for sure, but I imagine that Iray works like any other render engine in this resepct.   Your figure is well lit from the rear, but it is the front that is facing the mirror, and so is not lit very well at all.   You will need to get some light onto your figure which comes from in front of the figure, or there is nothing much to reflect.

I just tried this, and what would really help, is an Iray shader like Chromium, or a polished surface for the glass.

What are you using for the refective surface?

I think your shader isn't working for Iray.

Here's a quick test. I created the mirror from a plane primitive and applied the "Car Mirror" shader in the Iray Car Paint shader set from Tom2099 on DeviantArt. No light except the default Environment (Dome and Scene).

    90% Convergence, 3 Minutes 40 seconds.

JimmyC is right that you really want some light on the side of the character facing the mirror. Same as real world.

FWIW, Aaron575 also has a decent mirror shader  on DeviantArt.

  • Thanks for the tip.

I believe that the Aaron575.deviantart.com account is no longer active.

    Kindly,

    Grant
