"Ordinary" cars

There are some high-quality car models in the store, but they tend to be either:

  • luxury vehicles
  • sports cars and muscle cars
  • limousines
  • emergency vehicles
  • retro/historical vehicles
  • zombie/mutant vehicles

What's missing are basic commuter or family cars, the vehicles that probably make up 90% or more of the stuff you see on the road.

Anyone making contemporary scenes would probably appreciate some ordinary cars modeled to the same standards as the more 'exotic' vehicles already in the store (Polish, are you listening?)

Comments

  • Agreed, I have commented about this before. It is especially hard finding ordinary household cars from the 80s-90s.

My suggestion would be to find cars from 3D databases and import into DAZ using Blender. Not perfect but seems the only sollution.

  • Can I suggest you follow the link included in the post here: https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/comment/7694136/#Comment_7694136. It gives a huge number of existing cars, quite a few of which may be suitable. Regards, Richard.

I'm not from Poland, but sure an old Polonez and still in use old Ladas would be welcome.

Look this guy up TruForm I've bought just about every vehicle he has made. There are a lot of everyday commuter cars in his store.

There is a van too now (~ordinary). Beetle, Pickup trucks, some things. Variety is not endless, though.

Some artists may be reluctant to model real life cars, and while you find many apparently realistic models of real life brands on other marker places, as a buyer you can't be sure, if the model is licensed or consented with buy the manufacturer or right holders, and the description texts most of the time won't mention the actual issues, e.g. if you may use it modified or at all. I've found one case of a type of a ship, where only most of the description texts for the different variations of the model contained a warning about special licensing terms, for instance.

Good guess about cars and computer games: https://gamedev.stackexchange.com/questions/142017/why-dont-game-companies-buy-3d-models-of-cars-from-the-respective-car-manufactu

That's just a hurdle, in addition to the question, what sells. I wouldn't mind having more ordinary (-looking) cars...

(They should sell cars with genesis 9 female characters as a bundle... though what's the cost of that mearchant resources? )

Here at DAZ shop, that comes from DAZ.

There was even a car that was changed after the promo pictures were done and put on the product page.

Yes, i'd assume so. This was meant for market places, where they offer contemporary car models with high detail. DAZ may have their extra bit of QA and policies or strategies. After all, competing with places that have many high quality models of existing car brands, could be difficult per se.

These two look like the same exact model with different textures and the addition of the roof sign!  (and maybe some interior add-ons)
