osascripts

I am using the DAZ3DIM to download and install content. For the first time I am getting something asking for permission to use "osascripts". I have never noticed this prompt before and am reluctant to allow its use, because I am unsure of who is asking for this access and why. Is this part of this DAZ3DIM or DAZ? What is it and why do I need to give this access to my computer?

It is something to do with an Apple MAC for running scripts.

OSA (Open Scripting Architecture) is a component of the Mac OS that powers, among other things, AppleScript. It's used for automating tasks on your Mac.

Most of what DIM needs to do to install content is a matter of simply moving files into the places you have specified. However, for some products, such as software, it apparently needs to do more than that. At a guess, for example, it might need to change file permissions to make an application executable, or install components in a folder that is handled specially by the system. For those cases, the DIM runs a packaged script that implements the changes it needs to make. Because the script uses OSA -- which has the potential to make far-reaching changes to your system -- the operating system asks you to approve it before it can run.

Short summary: yes, this is part of the DIM's installation process, and you can safely say 'yes' to it. (Provided the DIM is running; if you see this message at other times, you might want to ask yourself exactly what's doing it and why). If you do not say 'yes', then your software may be incompletely installed, and may not work as expected.

    Thanks. That clears things up.
