Genesis Skin

Silly question, but when I add the genesis character to the scene there is no skin texture, so the character is just grey. Is this normal, or is there a skin texture I could add?

Thanks

That's normal...there should be basic child, basic male and basic female characters that will load with textures, in the Genesis > Characters folder  and there are material presets  in the Genesis > Materials folder.  The Characters will load a new instance of Genesis and the Material, (Jeremy, Lana, child) can be applied to an existing instance.

Has anyone else noticed this on V4 and Genesis... as I apply various textures for characters with fair complexions, esp. the ones marked "torso.jpg" or the "limbs" ones, a sort of "seam" effect takes place, esp. at the neckline and the uppermost part of the arms... if I remember correctly this happened in DS 4.3 and earlier; not sure if it has carried over to DS 4.8 although **I think** I've seen it recently.

I can't exactly pin it down although "Sam" for V4 comes to mind. It reminds me of late summer and if you usually wear a t-shirt with sleeves there is a color shift on your arms where the skin is tanned and not-so-tanned.

That sounds like mismatched surface settings -- is there a skin that does it out of the box, or only when you try several different skins?

    Great, that helps thanks.

Have you checked the diffuse base colour for those surfaces?

I never noticed with any Paid content, but have on free content.like in this image,  I changed the settings to make them all match, but for some reason I could do nothing with the Face,  If I add hair it's harder to notice a difference . One thing I had not tried, was to use a different map for the face.

That rather sounds as if you are applying maps through the Surface pane, in which case as noted in the other replies you need to make sure that the settings are consistent (same shader, same numeric values, same map types used) and that the textures all belong to the same set. Usually one would apply everything at one go with a preset, unless making new texture sets.

Yep, surface pane and merging things, that's me... I think I got caught out when I was clicking on this and that.. I'll try and go over the surface settings and the diffuse base color if it happens again. There's quite a bit that I don't understand about diffuse and specular say, and "uber" shaders and specific shaders. Yes the scalp on XaatXuun's male figure is exactly the sort of thing I've been getting from time to time. Thanks.
