NVIDIA Temps

I know I am running a laptop which is going to have higher temps anyway, but this is not really about absolute temps.  I sit and watch the GPU/card temps in HWMonitor and they tick along nicely. I start Daz Studio 4.8 and one card's temps spike by 33% to 50% and stays there.  On an empty scene, in a preview pane that is using texture shaders and with 3Delight selected as render engine (in fact, for what it is worth, I have deselected the gfx cards from use by Iray within DS!)  Surely it is not that hard a task to drive an empty preview pane using OpenGL?  I then shut DS and the GPU temp drops.  RInse, repeat, and it is the same so I am sure it is caused by DS.
