Camera headlamp in v 4.8

How do you permanently disable the camera headlamp in the new version of Studio?

I can't see why they added a hedlamp to a camera for rendering! Who on earth would ever want that?! Plus, to make matters worse, they have locked it 'on' by default so you have to unlock it before you can disable it (which you have to do for each new scene). Ridiculous!

Is there a global setting/preference to abolish this craziness once and for all?

Thanks

There has always been a headlamp in DAZ Studio, if you didn;t have that, you would need to add lights before you could start to set up your scene, otherwise all would be blackness..   In older versions, once a 'proper' light was added, the Headlamp went away (same as using Headlamp Mode 'Auto' now).

If you go to Render Settings > General > Misc > Auto Headlamp, and change that to 'Never' IRay will not use the Headlamp at all, it does not stay that way though, you would have to change it each time.   You could always load a Camera with no Headlamp as the default scene, and also the way you want Iray as a default, and load that when you start DAZ Studio using Preferences > Startup.

  • And the same in Preferences>Scene to control what you get on File>New. The headlamp is more likely to be an issue now as we are using the dome or mesh lights in Iray, rather than more commonly using actual light nodes in 3Delight

It always has been a problem...even 3Delight.  Loading a light turned it off.   But, certain lights never registered as lights...UberArea (or any area light) are some that don't register as lights, so Studio loaded the 'blocker' to be a 'fake' light and turn the headlamp off.  There are other shader lights that don't register, either, but don't load the blocker.  So, before, you needed to load another light to shut off the headlamp.

well I can see that you might want a headlamp for posing in the viewport, but not for rendering! It should be off by default in the render. Who would want to be rendering with a single light aligned to the camera?

DS has always rendered the headlamp, otherwise, if a user did not add any lights of their own, they would get a black render and that would be a cause for concern as well.   Using Iray has changed things quite a bit, but only very recently, and it will take time to make changes that suit everybody.

  • Hello,

if you did´nt want a headlamp when starting with an empty/new scene do the following.

    - start DAZ studio

    - go to Render settings - NVIDIA Iray - General

    - under Auto Headlamp select NEVER

    - save this blank scene as scene

    - go to the EDIT menue - select PREFERENCES - switch to the STARTUP tab - activate LOAD FILE - browse to your saved blank scene - Hit ACCEPT

    That´s it
