Previously Installed Content Missing from Smart Content After Update from 4.7 Pro to 4.8 Pro

I recently updated DAZ Studio 4.7 to 4.8 and everything except the new content that came with Pro 4.8 is just missing from Smart Content. DIMs, Renderosity Content, you name it; if it was not part of all the 4.8 Pro stuff it's just gone. Interestingly, the Content Library when browsing through on the right side can find the comtent and if I load up a scene I made previously it loads the scene with all the content properly but none of it appears within Smart Content.

Two things have changed on my system in addition to DAZ:

  • Windows 10 Pro x64 Imstalled
  • User Account Change with Windows Easy Transfer to put the account in line for Microsoft Account linking (this was done using the Windows 7 WET (copied the WET files from a VM) on Windows 8.1 - you just have to regenerate the Win +  X Shortcuts afterwards). A note on this, the old User Account folder is on yhe system (the account isn't) so there's just around 120GB of duplicate content

DAZ easily recognized the pertinent locations during installs and reinstalls without issues.

DAZ Install Directory:

E:\Apps & Games\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4

DAZ Content Directory:

C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library

The PostgreSQL service runs when DAZ starts so the CMS service is running. Its just not picking up on any content other than the basic DAZ 4.8 Pro stuff (I have tried adding new content). It does however pick up both Reality engine plugins (2 and 4).

From my brief look through the forums it seems I am not the only one having this issue with DAZ 4.8. I thought I was going to be able to try put IRay today but appatently not.

Were you already using PostgreSQL CMS before upgrading to 4.8?

    Does re-importing metadata work?

Check Edit > Preferences > Content Library > Content Directory Manager and make sure the locations haven't changed (both DAZ Studio Formats and Poser Formats).

No, I don't believe I was. I installed it once and everything dissappeared (I was still getting to learn DAZ than - it was around 4.5/4.6; I hadn't touch DAZ since the Victoria 3 days prior) so I removed it and everything returned to normal in 4.6. DAZ 4.7 never asked - it wasn't until 4.8 I tried to give it another whirl as when you cross over 900 pieces of content you really do need a reliable database and although PostgreSQL is something I commonly use I have heard good things about it.

After ressetting the layout, I checked the Content Directory Manager and saw while DAZ and Reality content was pointed right, Poser Pro 2014 was pointed to the DAZ library which I'm sure has some Poser content so I added the proper Poser path.

Than I looked at where the CMS was pointing and it was pointing to the old User Account's:

    %AppData%\DAZ 3D\cms

Than I changed that to point the new User Account's (since I used Windows Easy Transfer from Windows 7 on the 8.1 platform there's some quirks that the Windows 10 install fixed but others I'll have to fix by hand) CMS directory which is a carbon copy of the old one.

Finally, as you suggested, I re-imported the metadata and everything and than some showed up (there used to be content I had to browse for).

So everything is all fixed up and I can try out IRay finally. I'm interested in seeing how it compares to Reality Engine 4 as usually OpenCL vs CUDA - CUDA always wins.

    Thank you so much Fixmypcmike!

Edit - Actually... ran into one problem. The Materials Editor no longer displays the different shader colors that can be used with the Liquid Shaders Pack. It's the only one that I can tell that won't display its available materials.

Edit #2 - It displays the shader colors in the Content Library however - just not in Smart Content like it used to.

Edit #3 (Hopefully last one) - and it doesn't seem that DAZ is associating the two together. When I try to select a shader for the liquid pack from the Content Library nothing happens.

    Reality is NOT A RENDERER!

You'll be comparing Iray to Luxrender...and yes, Iray is faster.

You have the object and at least one surface selected when you try to apply the shader?  What path do they appear in?

True, but the only reason I ever use Lux is for Reality so in my mind they're interconnected. I know it's actually Luxrender. It is good to know that IRay is faster which I assumed with CUDA. How's quality? Some of the stuff I've seen so far looks really good.

I think the database was still indexing because the shaders now appear in Smart Content. My problem was I was using the Universal Tool so it selected the object but it didn't select the surface. In Daz 4.7 I used to just double click on the water surface and select the shader I wanted to use; in this case Water. It does appear to be working correctly once I moved over to the surface selection tool (rookie mistake by me).

For the record, the path displayed is correct:

    C:\Users\Public\Documents\My DAZ 3D Library\Props\JoLab\Liquid Pack\Shaders

Now onto installing a lot of the new content and testing IRay out. In my test render it seemed to render far faster than Lux; I just need to figure out the lights now as I'm used to having to insert the Reality lights and adjusting from there. And of course, I need to test out the Victoria 7 Pro Bundle too compared to the older Genesis 2 figures.
