Skydome on the Lava Planet

I just got stonemason's lava planet, and it's pretty nifty.  But it's got this big skydome that it uses for the background and for much of the lava.  And Iray doesn't like skydomes.  I tried making the skydome an emitter, and poked it a lot, but it was always either too dark or too red.

I saw that you can use the environment tab's dome to light the scene instead, which sounds fine for this.  But to do that I have to turn off my background and lava.  I tried putting the Skydome texture into the "environment map" spot, but that doesn't seem to have done anything.

How do I get the environment dome to show a textured skydome?

After putting the texture in the environmental map, did you turn Draw Dome "ON" ?

  • I did, but I think I poked at too many things at once.  Started again from scratch - this time it shows up, but only when I render and rather faded out.  Also too big and off-center.  I see the controls to move it around - is there a way to have it show in the preview window?

  • I can get it looking about this scale, but I don't know how to make it into a flat blob instead of a sphere.
