cant access view manipulator tool when panes are popped out from the side

on both  mac and pc I noticed since upgrading to 4.7 (yes for a while now) that when I am in city limits layout and I click on the tab of a pane to make it pop out and be visible, that the main view becomes slightly obscured (covered by the pane) so that I cannot access the view manipulation tool. so I end up closing a pane in order to change my view. I have put up with this for a long time and now realise it is making my user experience a royal pain. Anyone else experience this? if so is it fixed in 4.8? I otherwise like 4.7 and would not want to upgrade. I did a forum search but found no mention of this.

Thanks

So, nobody experienced this, or is it not clear what I am saying?

It's not common...but it does happen and I think it's either a screen size/resolution/driver problem or something even more obscure.

I'm uncertain exactly which part of your viewport is getting covered up by what (a screenshot might help.)  I don't know if I've seen your issue or not.  I did once have some screen element overlapping some other screen element in the past but can't remember what it was.  It might have been tabs being covered by the viewport though, or maybe not.I also don't know what the resolution was, whatever the problem was I'm no longer seeing it but I don't know if that's due to an update, or if I moved things around or resized things to fix it, or even if it was related to what you are seeing.

I have the same problem...don't have it on the Windows machine attached to a wide-screen.

I have the problem on my laptop but not on the desktop [much larger screen]. One work-a-round that obviously has limits is to have all or most of the tabs on one side. But then the scroll thingie is too eager and one ends up losing the tab as it scrolls to other tabs unintentionally.

Hi I think we finally got this solved.I forgot about this post I had made and so a year later(!) I made another post with the same question.  richard Haseltine mentioned this:

Close the Shader Mixer and Shader Builder panes, docked with the viewport.

Now I did not have these tabs open but  I did have some other tabs behind the view tab that were keeping it open too wide with a minimum width that is to big. Closing them solved the problem.
