Visible light
Hi all,
Animating with 3delight in DAZ 4.8 and I would like to have an effect where the beam of light from a spot light is visible in the render. Example; a torch beam or search light. Can anyone tell me how this can be achieved?
Please go gently, as I still don't get some of the lighting/camera/rendering terminology!
Thanks in advance,
G

There might be one or more products that do this, not sure.
Another way is to create or purchase a 2D light beam (basically a rectangle with a semi-transparent picture on it) and position it in your scene, although of course this isn't real light so that would only work under certain circumstances.
Similar to that, you could create a cone primitive and make it mostly but not completely transparent. It might be too sharp of an edge, you might have to create several of varying opacity.
Yet another way should be add fog to your scene, so the light hits it. This would of course be the most acurate, and also the slowest to render.
Hi. I'd purchase Age of Armour's fantastic ambient light and distant lights and his volume cameras to get the effect you're after. Works for me!.
Thanks guys, I'll look at age of armour and experiment with cones. Thanks for the ideas!
Best,
G
It's frequently called a Godray. You can acheive it with basic lighting and an atmosphere camera, or you can fake it with a prop. Sickleyield has a couple of variations for sale here http://www.daz3d.com/simple-godrays http://www.daz3d.com/expanded-godrays-celestial-bodies , as well as a freebie version on ShareCG http://www.sharecg.com/v/72345/view/21/DAZ-Studio/SY-Easy-Godrays-DS
Cybersox, I fixed your links for you, the first 2 were running inot each other and giving a 404
I think Jabba also did a tutorial on YouTube for getting GodRays using Age's Advanced Lights. Any questions feel free to ask
