3Delight Motion Blue Mystery

I'm animating handful of meteors flying toward the camera. I have a bit of motion blue and every one is nicely blurred...except for one. Can't figure out why this one rock is crystal sharp. It's coming close to the camera so perhaps there is a degree of lateral or vertical distance required before blur kicks in?  It's sharp regardless of the amount of blur.

Is it an instance?  Motion blur doesn't work on instances.  If so, copy the instance's position, duplicate the original object it is an instance of, then paste the position back to the new duplicate and motion blur that.

Okay that's something....cause it is part of an instance group. The other rocks in that group do blur however. So maybe it is something about being the last in that group?
