FIrst off you need something to reflect. Then you need to be sure that what you wish to be shown in the reflection is positioned so that the reflrction shows in your camera view. Next up, surfaces This will depend on the render engine you are using. In 3Delight select the surface of the mirror and set it to 100% reflectiion strength (and, probably, no associated maps). May be worth changing the type to Glossy Plastic. Diffuse colour probably white, and you may want to add a very pale blue tinge to the reflection colour. In Reality/LuxRender, there is a Mirror material type you can set in Reality. For Iray ... someone has a mirror shader up on ShareCG, and for Octane ... um, my brain starts to fade, I cannot recall off the top of my head.

(Thanks Simon, I was going to ask the very same question a few days ago and didn't get around to it...haha).

For iRay one of the uber surface metals (I think it's aliminium) works perfectly for a mirror surface.
Either aluminium or silver, and turn the Glossy Roughness dial right down (unless you want an old, grungy mirror that's seen better days).
I didn't like the metal surface ones. But this free Iray one at Sharecg works great.
