Environments turn black when i'm rendering with Iray

Hello,

Whenever I render using Iray, the environments always turn black, it doesn't do it to the 3d stuff, only to the "painted" backgrounds.

Its also doesn't occur if I use 3Delight to render.

Please help me figure out this problem ^^

Thanks,

Trixter.

You can't use the Iray Environment Dome with a 3DL skydome. The skydome is a physical dome -- it covers your scene. The light from the Iray Environment (or sun) cannot penetrate it. With a skydome in place, everything has to be lit using scene lighting.

There are some other threads here about ways to "open up" a skydome so that you can see the scene behind the character, while letting Iray's Environment lights to shine through. Here's one to get you started:

    Thanks!

Tho most of what was written there was too complicated for me T-T'

For now I found a way to replace the original gray background with a sky picture and it works fine, but i'm still curious about getting it to work with the 3d skydome...

If you still want to use a skydome, I worked up an alternative method that's pretty easy. You don't have to know why it works, and it's just a few steps. It basicqlly makes a hole* in the top of the skydome so Iray's Environment lights will shine through. (*It's a virtual hole, so no skydomes are ever harmed in the making of your scene.)
