Problem With Textures Between Models

I am confused about something.  I have Genesis, G2 and G3.  It was my understanding that where Genesis was concerned that even though the morphs may not work if I do not have that particualr Victoria or Stephanie or whatever for that particular Genesis version, I should still be able to use the textures from those characters.  I have two characters for Genesis, the Gaby for V5 and Keira for Stephanie 5.  Should the textures not still work on Genesis even if I don't  have those morphs, since both are actually a morph of Genesis?

Genesis is different from Genesis 2. And Genesis 3 is different.

Genesis 3 can't use old textures. Unless you do a very manual process that needs either 3Dcoat or Blender or something like that.

Genesis 1 could use V4 Materials by default. Genesis 2 could use Genesis 1 and V5 Materials by default(i think....) Genesis 3 can only use Genesis 3... If you wanted Genesis 2 to use special Genesis 1 maps, like Stephanie 5 I think you had to buy stuff for that to work.

    I do hope that helps.

Stephanie and Victora are different UV mappings...so if the texture is for a character that needs one of them, most oftent it's because it is using that UV mapping.

Some of the characters for Dazcharacters (like V5 or SP5) are using the base Genesis UV, others are using the specialised UVs that came with that Dazcharacter.

Unfortunately it is not usually written on the product page.

You can use the morphs without the Dazcharacter, but it will not look like the promos.

  • I am not worried about the morphs, since I bought the head and body and creature morphs for Genesis and the head and body morphs for G2F, I can pretty much make the models look however, it was the textures in particular that I wanted to use.  I have V6 for G2F but can't seem to find the V5 I had for Genesis.  I got it from a disk from a magazine but no longer have the disk and have had to reinstall on different computers over time, ending up losing my V5.  Even so, I thought I could use V5 textures on Genesis even if I didn't have that morph for Genesis.  I do know about the whole not being able to use things on G3, read about it a couple months ago and not really interested in that model at the moment, she is just useful until I can afford her morphs as a stand in or testing things.  I also know about applying to V4 and saving, then applying to Genesis and saving and then using on G2.  Can't be bothered to do so for G3 at this time.  So my goal at the moment is to reaquire V5 again so those textures work again.  The Steph5 character Keira will just have to sit in my account until I can get that and the other morphs at some later date.

Oh I still love Keira, it's a solid skin. But yeah, Steph5 and V5 were add ons for the original genesis.

And that trick you mentioned about applying V4 to Genesis and then G2F doesn't work on Genesis 3.

Perhaps I can ask this question here.

I'm having trouble getting some of my Genesis textures to load to Genesis 2, male or female.  Some load, and some don't.  I've checked the UV's and even set them to Victoria or Michael 5.  Is there something else I'm missing?

I think some of the older Genesis materials were saved as DSA files. Genesis 2 requires DUF format material presets. What you can do is apply the preset to Genesis. Then save it as a new material preset(which will be DUF). Use this new preset on Genesis 2. This is the same idea for getting V4/M4 materials onto Genesis 2 as well. Assuming you have the UV's for those on Genesis 2.

There was some new information added to how DUF presets are saved IIRC, so the old DSA format just wasn't good enough.

  • Good to know about the G3 texture usage, that will definately help in making up my mind about that generation.  G2 is still quite useful and widely used as is Genesis and even teh Gen 3 and 4 series, so I don't think I have to worry about having enough models and items for them...lol
