older UVs for G9 ??

Hi,

maybe a simple question:
How to apply G3/G8 UVs to G9 to use the mass of my older skin/eye settings on G9?

    Hm,

nice hint. But using this product, some of the areas don't fit. -> arms and head (back head area).
I used the base G8 female skin maps.
    Daz version: 4.21

Those products are not just alternate UVs, that wouldn't be enough due to the changes in material zones and number of textures used between G9 and earlier figures.

They include geografts for where the material zones boundaries need to be redefined. You need to apply the materials to those geografts too, not just the figure.

    Pardon?

What kind of product is this - not ready to use out of the box?
Where is the manual how to use?

Isn't there any proper product as it was for using older UVs on G8?
    This was my original question.

It is a proper product to use older textures on G9, it is perfectly ready to use out of the box, and there is a pdf manual included telling you how to use it.

  • First load g9. With it selected, find  the product in your library( People\Genesis 9\Anatomy\Cayman Studios\Legacy UVs)  you will find carefully numbered "G9 Legacy UVs - 1. Prepare Genesis 9"  Push the button. This will set up your g9, and then push one of the next buttons to set it to accept G3, G8 or g8.1 textures, male or female as needed.  Then you can go to whatever g3/8 textures you want to use and load them like normal. You might need to also select the geograft and apply the material a second time for some things.

    Thats it.

If this is confusing, it also includes the documentation, which you can access directory from that folder inside DAZ Studio.

It is possible that if you only ever use Smart Content you may be missing some things. So if you have trouble with a product, try looking at it in both library methods in DS.

    Hi Lyrra,

thank you for the description. Yes - this works. But very different compared to the way to apply the many G3 UVs to G8.

    @Leana:
A proper product is expected to work as said just above.
Only when you dive into the install zip you find a readme with the description under the content folder. This is expected to appear while opening the G9 character. How should I know, that this scripting is hidden deep in the anatomy folder??
On the product page you say: "See the PDF documentation for full instructions." Nice - Using IM and opening DAZ later, there is no way ( no link to get all the necessary hints.
The native user has to know where to get this manual. But no hint when opening the G9 character.

Yes,  G3 and G8 are topologically and structurally very similar while G9 and G3/G8 are more dissimilar as G3/G8 are from the original M1 through M3 series.  UV's are all about topology.
