In Smart Content no Files no Products in 4.8

Niki_ArtNiki_Art Posts: 50

I had DAZ3D 4.6 and today I`ve installed DAZ3D 4.8 (Windows 7/64) manuallly (I did not deinstall 4.6 version before that). I have done Content DB Maintenance and Re-Import Metadata but still cannot see my stuff in Products or Files in Smart Content. (Content Library is OK - my stuff are there). What to do? Please help!

    what OS and version?

Which database software (Valentina or PostgreSQL)?  If you migrated to the Postgre, you'll need to convert the Valentina db over (there's a program in the DIM to download and do that).

  • Thanks for answer! I have PC Windows 7 Ultimate/64. What is Valentina or PostgreSQL? I never heard fot that. Please can you explain me.

Valentina was the database program used in Studio 4.6 and earlier.  PostgreSQL is the one that is now preferred.  The 'beta' and changeover period were the last and current versions (4.7 and 4.8).  There is a migration program to handle the switch.

But first, start Studio and then, in Task Manager, see if there are any running processes for the CMS (there should be if it is actually running).

One of the differences is that Valentina runs all the time, while, Postgre starts and stops with Studio.

  • I start Studio and in Task Manager I found out ContentManagementServer.exe (but only when I check "Show processes from all users"). After that, I close Studio and in Task Manager I found out ContentManagementServer.exe again (but only when I check "Show processes from all users"). So what`s the next?

Yes, I`ve installed PostgreSQL CMS after installation 4.8 through DIM. But I did not deinstall 4.6 version before Installation of 4.8 (manually installation). Is it problem? What to do?

In the options menu for the Content Library pane (rectangle with horizontal lines in the upper corner) try pressing "Start CMS".  If it worked, then you'll see 2 more entries in the Content Library pane, Products and Categories.  Then you can Re-Import Metadata.

"ContentManagementService.exe" is the old Valentine database.  PostgreSQL CMS will show about half a dozen "postgres.exe" when it's running.

Go to Help > Troubleshooting > View Log File, delete the contents of the log and save it.  Then shut down DS and wait until dazstudio.exe isn't showing as a process in Task Manager.  Start DSm then go to the log file and look for a line that says either "Connected to CMS..." or "Failed to connect to CMS".

I`ve installed DAZ3D 4.8 version and DIM from scratch (before new installation I deleted all my DAZ files, DAZ Studio, CMS and DIM).

After installation I installed few basic files in DIM - and also "PostgreSQL CMS" (Win 64 bit) with 64,6 MB and "PostgreSQL CMS From Valentina CMS Conversion" with 0 bytes.

Start DAZ Studio and look that "Content Library" works but "Smart Content" not. In "Smart Content" I tried with Content DB Maintenance ] Re-Import Metadata - not help - "Smart Content" not works.

After installation I did everything you told me to do. Start DAZ - Go to Help > Troubleshooting > View Log File, delete the contents of the log and save it.  Then I shut down DS and wait until dazstudio.exe isn't showing as a process in Task Manager.  Start DS again and then I go to the log file and look for a line - I saw this: "Error connecting to CMS".

In "Programs and Features" (Control Panel / Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit) I cannot see my CMS  - I have DAZ Install Manager, PostgreSQL CMS and DAZ Studio 4.8 (64bit) and also I cannot see CMS (ContentManagementService.exe) in Task Manager (Processes) anymore after installation. I manually installed DAZ3D 4.8 - what have I done wrong because I ain`t got CMS? Should I install CMS separately? Where can I find link for CMS on this site?

I use Eset Smart Security 8 - could it be problem for stopping CMS before new installation and in the future?

    What to do?

There's a chance that Eset is blocking it from starting (not blocking it from installing).  Check the Eset logs and see if it says something about Postgre.  Or whitelist it in Eset.

I've had this problem before too. What I did was use the "Search hardrive for files". It is in the same dropdown menu as content database maintenance. Just pick the drive your content is in. Hope that helps, it's worked for me.

  • Thanks everyone! Unfortunately nothing helped me. I am totally disappointed with DAZ3D 4.8. I'm seriously thinking about using Poser.

In Task Manager / Processes it will be postgres.exe not ContentManagementService.exe and oftemn there will be several instances of them.

It probably is I'd bet. At this point it might be wise to uninstall all DAZ versions and only install a clean 4.8 and DIM using the default settings for content and everything.

Hi Sine! I already did it - I`ve installed DAZ3D 4.8 version and DIM from scratch (before new installation I deleted all my DAZ files, DAZ Studio, CMS and DIM).

My opinion is that Eset Smart Security 8 is problem. But I dont know how to check the Eset log about postgres.exe. How to do it?

I push my "Start" button on Windows 7, then on "Run" and then type "Services.msc". But I cannot see any service (in Services (Local)) connected with DS. Before it was ContentManagementServer. What is the new name of PostgreSQL CMS service? I want to change "Status" to Start. Maybe it will help.

    postgres.exe, but it's not a service.

Does the DIM log say "Connected to CMS" or "Failed connecting to CMS"?

In ESET try whitelisting by going to Advanced setup> Computer> Exclusions> Add> then browse to file, I think the default location is C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\PostgreSQL CMS\bin\postgres.exe

    Yes i have resolve !

you need to install PostgreSQL CMS in DAZ MANAGER ( and re-import data)

Why it's not by default :-

  • Me too same problem - installed everything from scratch on new computer and there is nothing in smart content (although this is the first lesson in the Daz tutorial). All the above explanations seem very complex for a beginner. Can someone give me simple directions about what to do. I also have poser which always works

    Did you install "PostgreSQL CMS"?

DId you install the content fresh or copy over your content folders?

Were you installing with DIM or manually?

I'm having this problem myself (smart content not showing up, categories not showing up, not able to search, re-importing meta-data does nothing), but not from a new install as I had not installed 4.8 recently (it was like... 5 months ago, and probably over 4.6, but I don't remember if I had updated to 4.7 inbetween that). It had been working just fine until shortly after I added AM Wolf 2.0 and updated LAMH... as in I updated it, opened DS, smart content worked fine (though there were some other issues regarding Wolf 2.0 and LAMH crashing DS on me when I tried using a preset... though it worked the third time just fine...)... few days later, start up DS... it freezes on the connecting to CMS startup line and I have to end the process cause it's doing all of nothing... I start it up again and the smart content and such is gone.

There does seem to be both the old CMS system (which I've tried stopping it, starting it, both from the start window shortcuts and from services) and PostGre. Everything was installed manually, I don't use the DIM. I haven't tried uninstalling and reinstalling yet, cause I'm not entirely certain to what extent I need to (as I do things manually, I might miss something I need to uninstall and reinstall to fix it).

Update: Turns out it fixed itself when I restarted my computer. >_> Guess I don't need to reinstall anything for now.

  • The plain logo instead of a thumbnail and the exclamation mark indicate that the file is indeed missing - have you moved your content around, or unisntalled and reinstalled in a diffrent location?
