Two Bundles, 1 Character?

So, this is the second time (I think) that I've seen this... But I don't understand the "Buy Both Julia Bundles" idea. Basically, roughly $20 out of each bundle ($50-ish) dollars is Julia herself. But the sale page says, "Buy both and you get $5 off each." How does that make sense if I'm buying the Julia base character twice?
I'm so confused.

Yeah, I'm not sure I get it either - it seems that "College Life" and "Gamer Life" could very well be two sides of the same person so I would have thought that there would be a mega-bundle with all the items. It does seem a bit daft to buy both of those bundles without the "pay only for the items you don't have" option. I did quickly do some napkin maths and if you do want all items it works out a little cheaper to buy one bundle and then the non-duplicated items from the other. However, with the 5% thing it flips back to being cheaper to buy both bundles - if you can get over the fact that you could feel "cheated" by having to buy 2/7 items twice.
I know that discounts are odd and not everyone has the same but... When I put them both in my cart and look at the costs, it seems as if they both drop to roughly the cost of each one MINUS the cost of Julia. Which, I guess that makes sense? Maybe? But why make it complicated?
This time it's worse than ever, since both the character and the makeups are in both bundles.

Juts buy one bundle and whatever items you fancy from the other. The stacking discount on new items makes this very viable.
I ended up buying both bundles in the end. Still confused by the lack of mega-bundle and how the discounts work but certainly not going to complain as they all stacked up pretty well for me after adding to the basket and seeing how everything interacted.

Only 20 minutes to midnight over here, so not that long before I give 8 tokens for 12 in return (the stacked discounts made Mad Artists really mad)...
i only get to $61 fir the 2 bundles.
Oh, well to get it that discount you need to have purchased Xiu Lin to get the orange banner for today's items, then you also need to have 8 tokens to add on top. So I don't think it would be possible for everyone to get the bundles down that far :(
And if you were curious, it's the third time for G9 I believe! (Joan and Xui Lin were the others, I don't know why they sometimes avoid a mega bundle)

That seems to match (with everything, tokens, banner). Bundles cam around 11.60/11.71.
How did you manage that kind of discount? I'm seeing them in my cart as both for ~$31 each. I mean, I don't have 8 tokens saved up so maybe that's the issue but that seems way less expensive than I can see them for.
