Printing your art - Where to get it printed?

Where do you get your art printed? Online, in a local shop?
If online, who do you use? Who has the best quality. Soemthing that won;t fade for awhile.

Any suggestion on paper, ink, etc would be much appreciated.

If you choose an online print shop, make sure it's in your country, international shipping can be expensive. I live in Europe, I'm not going to get my stuff printed in Singapore or Bogota!

I want lenticular prints but cannot find legitimate sites just premade crap or sus ones

plenty on how to do them yourself ( two images superimposed in tiny strips with self adhesive  plastic louvred coating stuck on top)

Well, since I work for a printing company I would get it printed there - but I guess not everyone would have that option.

For some more helpful advice, I think it would depend on what sort of thing you wanted to print. For example, I got some calendars printed and so for that I used a 300gsm Gloss material with additional Gloss Lamination and the earliest one I have (2020) still looks as good as it did from day one. However, if you were looking to print your work in a book or bound document then that would not be the best option - you'd probably want something more like a Gloss/Silk 135gsm. I did get some "Photo Diaries" printed on that for a family member but that was only in December so cannot vouch much for the longevity.

Other than that, I would agree with rosseliani in that you should find someone reasonably local if you can since if you get something done and are happy with it then you would want to use them again and again - so any delivery charges would start to add up.

I go to local Walgreens 3 miles and have my posters printed. 2' or 60.96 cm by 3' or 91.44 cm. running about 30 US I slap in a 25 dollar frame. Then sell to the local cannabis dispensary for 100 US a piece they sell for a higher price. They'll buy the weirdest stuff. They even describe things they want. I try to make good on the description. The Love of Fantasy has been the biggest seller, followed closely is Sci-Fi.

If you were in Germany, you could try this one: https://www.lenticularprinting.de/

They also do smaller numbers of print. But between language barrier and shipping costs, I'm not sure if it's worth the effort.

  • I mostly print on canvas via an online store that ships in my country.  I have had the pictures up for more than 5 years (several in direct sunlight) , and they still look great.  Very reasonably priced, and the shipping is usually free because I do 5-6 pictures at a time.  Running out of wall space, though :-D

it looks like the best option is to in fact buy a packet of the plastic sheets that go on top and just get the  images printed at the correct size in the special format needed, I may be best doing that at a local store like Kmart

I am in Australia and we are too far away from everyone

it would be good to go to a somewhat professional printing facility. The quality of Kmart, which there are none around here anymore, Walmart, Walgreens, etc is questionable. We actually have a preety good printer which does up to 17 inch prints, but even that isnt good for longevity.

I wA HOPING ARTISTS WERE USING MAYBE A GOOD ONLINE COMPANY, but local would be better for sure. The local places are crazy expensive though, not really worth it.

As mentioned above, it depends on where you live. There is an online company based here in the United States called Vistaprint. The work is good ... you can choose different levels of quality. Of course, much of what I have done is office things and short term posters. I have not tried them for long term artwork.

HINT:  they are more expensive than their competitors, but once you sign up you will frequently get 50% discount offers which acutallly make them competitive.

I've used easycanvasprints.com a few times and they run sales quite a bit, so makes it worth it.  They're pretty cheap in comparison and I've gotten some great 16x20 canvases out of it, all my own 3D artwork.  Looks pretty pro sitting on my walls too!  laugh

us Aussies also have Snapfish (online store) used to be connected to kmart online but kmart went their own way

  • Deviat Art sells prints but they take a large portion of the profits
Be careful when choosing an online store too btw I've been interested in this too BUT on many reading their small print conditions you give them the rights to reproduce and sell your art themselves

DeviantART stopped their printing service back in October/November 2022 (pretty sure it was around that time). I used to use them and was happy with the quality. I hated they had to remove that service.

  • I use a local FedEx store here in the States that typically prints displays for businesses. The quality is good, the staff works with you to get the best size based on DPI and image size, you can choose glossy or matte paper stock, and they will trim the product for framing. The prices are reasonable, and the service is same day. I've also used the online Fracture service. The transfer your image directly to glass, but you are limited to certain sizes and dimensions. Again, quality is good and prices are reasonable.

    I have used MPIX.  https://www.mpix.com/

I had a bunch of giclees printed there on fine art paper. Somewhat more expensive than the traditional walmart/ drugstore printing, but was totally worth it IMO. They look and feel lovely.  I got (6) 8 x 10 prints, and  (2) 11x9. With shipping it was just a little under 50 USD.

In my opinion, that was a very reasonable price for the number of prints you received. I'll have to check out that site. Thanks!

...I've been looking into the same as well.  We have a number of print houses here in the states that also do fine art canvas prints.

I got a ender 3v2 and a p1p in my bedroom/office, so I would probably just print myself if I had the urge.
