Hey, does anyone out there have some general familiarity with watercraft who could comment on Daz assets that might be suitable for being in the background of a harbor image set in approximately 1940? I'm mainly thinking of shipping and passenger vessels but also could use info on what would be appropriate for a sailboat or yacht of that time. Since I'm not planning any up-close images and the setting is fictional (a world-built world similar to, but not the real world of 1940) - I have a lot of wiggle room but want to avoid absurd anachronisms.

Two of 3djoji's works come to mind: the tramp steamer Katherina and the lake cruiser Graziana. Kathrina also has an iray texture pack.
3djoji's Andrea is almost period-appropriate- the streamlined funnel is what really gives it away as a 1950s ocean liner, rather than one from the 1930s or 40s (the real life Andrea Doria was entered service in 1953).
Also, PW has a pre-War wooden speedboat.
If you are wanting military vessels of that time period checkout Chris Schell's Armory at Poserworld: https://poserworld.com/theschell_bunker-2 and some of the boats at VanishingPoint: https://www.vanishingpoint.biz/marketplace.asp?txtCriteria=boat
a surprising number of ships from that time still had masts with sails, I am only speaking from photographs my Dad took as a merchant sailor in various European ports after WW2 before he immigrated to Australia in in 1950.
Smaller craft obviously use wind as well as fuel, yachts today still do.
I should look for said photographs
A couple more to consider...
A classic Tramp Steamer - https://www.daz3d.com/tramp-steamer
The Clyde Puffer - https://www.daz3d.com/clyde-puffer
A general purpose fishing boat - https://www.daz3d.com/wood-fishing-boat

This video might be of interest to you https://film.britishcouncil.org/resources/film-archive/the-little-ships-of-england . It was made in 1943 and looks at the little ships that helped with the evacuation at Dunkirk. There are also views of shipbuilding yards and various scenes around docks.
..I have them all as wel as the Katherina boat as well as:

and

Tug boats would maybe be a thing - depends the size of harbour and shipping.

There's also a handy vessel over at Renderosity - I probably better not share a direct link, search for Point Nemo Cutter (by Cybertenko)
And there's also Shrimp Boat for DAZ Studio by VanishingPoint that already has iRay materials as standard also at Renderosity.
Hey, thanks for all the comments, everyone. I appreciate the input.
"Write what you know" some say, and I do the opposite: I know about inland deserts, so I write a story of which a significant chunk takes place in coastal areas (mainly giant metropolitan port cities).
