Curious, how do you blow 3 video cards?

go for the RTX 3060 with 12 gb of vram which is around $350 to $400

Yeah, 12 gb 3060. What are you doing to the poor things? Only boards I've killed I accidentally trod on or in one case stabbled with a no.2 phillips. I had one that was 'claimed' by a stray cat but that was ok after a wash.

They are not to be used as waffle irons.enlightened

But yeah,  for DAZ work, 12GB RTX-3060 unless you're rendering the next 3 hour CGI fantasy epic in a rush.indecision

For rendering it is extremely important the cooling system, be sure that your case is large enough and the gpu stays fresh. This is also why laptops can't be good for rendering. The video card will anyway slow down if temperatures rise too much, so this shouldn't be a cause of "death", unless you disabled some safety by forcing an extreme overclocking for example.

Somewhere in this forum i read that the length of time can also be a problem, as the computers of normal users aren't designed to work full throttle several days in a row, but rather up to, say, 8 hrs...

Iray can run a GPU hard, but actually not as hard as playing demanding video games. Some gamers can play games all day for years on end. If you have any sort of decent cooler on the card and the case isn't choking it, rendering with Iray for long periods should not be any problem.

I would be investigating why 3 cards have blown. That is money lost if those were out of warranty. This could be cooling related, or it could be power delivery. Or you could be static shocking equipment by handling it improperly. You may want to check out the outlet, circuit breaker, and power supply. If you have an old or crappy power supply, replace it.

At any rate, the 3060 is just about the only thing in that budget worth getting, primarily because it has 12gb of VRAM. There are faster cards that might be close to that budget, but they have 8gb of VRAM. Now maybe that 8gb is enough for you, if so, ok, whatever works for you. It is your build. The 3060ti is a fair bit faster, the 3070 is faster still. So if 8gb is enough and these are in that price range, I won't disparage you for making that choice. If VRAM is a concern though, the 3060 is the clear choice. As for the 3050, it is slower and only has 8gb, so a double negative. The 3060 is an easy choice over the 3050.

If you are looking at used, the 3060 is just about as fast as the previous gen 2080ti. Considering the 2080ti is the fastest card in its generation, that means that the 3060 is faster than all of those other 2000 series cards, too. This is for Iray. If you look up other software, like games, the 3060 is not as impressive at all. But for Iray, the newer ray tracing cores make a difference. And don't get anything older than the 2000 series, they will not have ray tracing hardware and will be much slower. At this point in time, it makes sense to go with 3000 series or newer. But no cheap 4000 series cards exist (and may never exist for that matter).
