Darker legs

In a lot of renders, the figures have darker legs than there upper body. At least the guys do. Why is that? And what can you do about it?

Here's an example. I can find others.

Probably due to the source material they used to make the textures. the only thing you can do is use another texture

If the character is clothed, then you could lower the translucency of the legs. As long as the area where the torso joins the legs is not showing, you can dial the translucency until it matches the lightness of the upper body.

  • The why is that most humans have darker legs than upper bodies (sun exposure not withstanding) so photo sourced references and textures will reflect this. That texture looks photo-sourced.

It is a consequence of gravity pooling blood in the legs a bit, and the photo reference being accurate enough to pick this up.

What to do about it? There are two extremes - nothing, and have a new texture for each pose... There really isn't much that can be done about it by the user beyond what's already been suggested, as the results have been baked in from the moment the photo was taken.

I have had this with a G8F character, and I usually end up changing the skin texture.

    Regards,

It may be that the skin on the legs is a bit darker, but not as dark as in KevinH's picture. The difference in this case obviously comes from the fact that the model had tanned legs and a slightly tanned face, but a completely pale upper body and pale feet - which of course looks terrible. Whoever sells something like this as a resource.... well, ok.

But I've also seen the difference on older, non-photo based materials - where it looked just as awful.

I have no clue if it might work or if it is set up this way but maybe using the Soft Skin transitions sets frm Esid and FenixPhoenix could help?
