a basic question: how to show a half sink empty box?

Just realized that I can not solve this simple problem: Show an empty box and its insides when half sink in ground.
Any idea?

The ground would have to be transparent, or at least translucent. You could try a cube primitive with a volumetric shader (done in Iray through SSS).
Or, if you mean that you want just that part of the ground to disappear, as if you're submerging the box into water such that the contents stay dry, you might want to look at Gescon.
Press Ctrl + 8 to check the geometry (segments) of the ground object, see if there's any chance you can use Geometry Editor to select the polygons (or create a ground / floor by using Primitive - Plane with enough segments), then hide or delete the selected polygons and adjust the scale of ground and/or box as needed.
Thanks for your answer. I tried to make a volumetric cube but it can not achieve my request. Here is the parameters I used on it:
Refraction Index: 1.00
Refraction weight: 1.00
Thin walled: Off
Transmitted Measurement Distance: 30.00
SSS Mode: Chromatic
Scattering Measurement Distance: 25.00
SSS Color: 0.54 0.54 0.54
SSS Direction: 0.50
It can make a fake volumetric effect, but can not hide the ground inside.
Gescon looks insteresting, I may check it later.
Let's assume the ground can not be transparent or UV modified, and the Box has a complex shapes such as an empty pool, is there an easy way to put that empty pool inside the ground, and show the inside pool bottom?
Thanks. That is an idea, but not accurate, especially the 'box' is a complex shaped stuff, and the ground is combined by many real tiles (not tile shader), or you want to turn the box's Y rotation for 20 degree.
do 2 renders (or 1 spot render) with the plane visible and hidden, layer in Gimp/Photoshop etc, erase the bit on the top layer
(or mask in a video editor if doing a movie)
Yea ~ if they're with complex shapes / polygons, DS cannot handle it with native functionalities as it's not a modeling software after all... But actually it's just a boolean operation, without buying the plugin, you may use Blender to make it for any shape, within 1 min and all free...
I have the gescon plug in and you can create the effect you are after. It has the advantage of showing the edge where the box meets the ground, if that is desirable.
It depends on the final look you are trying to achieve on whether or not this is the best approach, or one of the other methods mentioned above.
