iray renders items with opacity set to zero

creating an all in one light pole ... I set the street signs up as separate surface zones ... so I could set the opacity to zero and have them disappear when I don't have the pole on a corner.
---
the left hand picture shows the pole with the streetsigns turned off
the right hand one is the start of a iray render with them reappearing ...
but they don't have their textures applyed just the default white.
---
so is there something other than opacity to turn off to keep Iray from rendering zero opacity items?

Sometimes sticking a black image (size does not matter but full black is important) and use that as an opacity map will clear up any left over opaticy. Don't forget that you need to make the specularity black as well so there is no residual gloss showing.

  • my big question is does this happen everytime I use opacity to turn something off? NO so are only with one set of shaders... that I use a lot...

the shader I was using is from this set: Sculptural Genesis Ultra Fun Kit
and it doesn't show an opacity map or specularity setting...
is there some place to add them to the list?

    edit the dson file?

  • I think I found a work around... apply one of dazfires paint colors... than manualy put the plaster effect and bump map onto the surface... and it gives me the texture when it's on and nothing when it's off

when it happened it was the first time I had used opacity to  take part of something out of a scene... but I checked some other things so it had to be the particular object or something about it, in this case the texture...

  • A transparent surface is still there so any reflections/refraction/specularity will still be visible depending on material if that could be the problem ?

  • it was just one set of shaders so far... but if I put another shader on... and then just add the texture map and the bump map without applying the complete original shader, it works fine....in that when it's zero opacity it doesn't render.
So now I can install my new street lights in the scene...
only took about 2 hours in iray and it's twice as big as previous ones...

If your going to use 3Delight shaders in Iray then you have to expect it to look crap,
