Assistance with garabaldi plugin
Hello,
I'm a complete newbie to daz and modelling in general and I recently downloaded the garabaldi hair plugin, however the plugin is not installing correctly and I'm appealling for some help.
What I'm running:
64 bit windows 8.1
daz studio 4.8 64 bit
and daz install manager 1.1.0.41
I have an ssd so I installed daz to my E drive (seagate harddrive) instead of the c.
I've checked the troubleshooting guide for the garabaldi plugin and tried everything I can find to fix it. Troubleshooting attempted:
-Downloaded with install manager initially but it was not in the 'about installed plugins' nor was it showing in the 'create' menu where it is supposed to be.
-installed manually from the product page to (as per the instructions in the troubleshooting guide):
C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4
and then tried:
C:\Program Files (x86)\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4
-installed to the same location as all my other files E:\Daz\
-tried putting it in my E:\Daz\Plugins folder too.
None of the above worked. I've uninstalled and reinstalled, I've rebooted, run a gpupdate /force and I'm out of ideas.
Can anyone who has garabaldi working in daz 4.8 give me an advice?

I have the plugin for this, and I am just checking to see where DIM installed it for me. It appears in About Installed Plugins, and also in the Create menu.
Give me a couple of minutes, just checking DIM.
I don't have this plugin but does it require a serial number and have you activated it yet? You can find it by going to My Account then Serial Numbers and adding it to DAZ by clicking on the menu Help then About Installed Plugins. It may not require a full computer restart but most do need you to exit & restart DAZ Studio.
If you've already activated it and that's not the case, can you expound a bit more on what you're experiencing? Are you receiving an error message?
If you already have a version of the Plugin installed, you must uninstall it first. I uninstalled my version (although it is working) and reinstalled using the manul installer (not DIM) I uninstalled it from the Control Panel in Windows, see if you have anything there first.
Mine installed to C:\Program Files\DAZ 3D\DAZStudio4, you need to put the full path in for where DAZ Studio is installed to in your system in the manual downloaded installer.but don;t add Plugins to the end of the path.
It shows up in About Installed Plugins and Create.
Make sure that DAZ Studio is NOT open when installing this plugin.
I was looking at the Help on the garabaldi express website and I have a feeling this issue has something to do with it being installed on an external hard drive.
Using the ssd can be done but in my experience it creates extra heartache making sure everything is synced to look in the right places. Plugins also install files under the users app data folder on the C: drive, so it's possible there's a command in the script looking for something in the directory on the external drive that isn't there.
For example if you buy a V4 character from Renderosity and put it on an external hard drive you may receive an error trying to load the character because DAZ is trying to find the V4 base in the same place (externally) where the character runtime folder is when it's actually in the library on the C: drive
thanks for the help guys; but I realized how stupid my question was when I realized I had another plugin that works fine and I could just find out where it was installed and reinstall there... opened up daz three seconds later and garabaldi is all like 'hi stranger,'
Turns out I'm a bright spark and had made an E:/plugins/ folder......
*goes back to her corner for the special children*
thanks for the speedy responses anyway!
Garibaldi only installs 2 files - garibaldiPlugin.dll in the plugin folder and garibaldiShader.sdl in the shader folder.
If you have installed the Daz Studio app in E:\Daz, then there should be a series of subfolders showing under that folder. That's where you will find the plugin and shader subfolders. If the DAZStudio.exe file is somewhere else, then you need to go to that folder and find the subfolders there.
For a simple manual install, run the installer to a temp folder then move the 2 files to the correct location.
Remember, the app and plugins are in a different folder from the content files. If you use DIM, you must be sure that the correct paths are set up for content and plugins or nothing will be installed in the correct locations. DIM and pretty much every help file assumes that you are installing things to the default locations. If you are not, then you must always substitute your path info for the default "C:\Program FIles..." that the instructions provide.
Yeah, when I installed daz I went into the settings and told it to look for everything on the E drive, I probably created a seperated plugins folder and told it to look there when I did that. ^^;;
Thanks for the help and advice!
