How to get back to the original version of 4.8?

My 4.8 is all messed up. The VIEWPOINT is very narrow. The left and right panels are wide. There has to be a way to return to its original

configuration.

    You mean the viewport, I suppose?

    Go to Window > Workspace > Select layout and select one of the default layouts.

    You can also grab the edge of it with the mouse and drag it left or right to resize it :)

    The minimum width of the left and right panels is dependent on the panes you have docked there.  So, if you cannot drag them any smaller, you might be able to shuffle your panes from one side to the other or undock them to allow you to then shrink the panel once the wide pane is gone. 

    If you put all the wide pane on one side (rather than a wide pane on both sides at once), that will at least let you shrink the other side.
