how to convert custom categories from DS3.x n 4.x to DS4.8

hi all,

i would install version 4.8 of DS. when i done, 1 year ago, from 4.7 to 4.8, DS4.8 don't import (comand "import old content") the custom categories created with 4.7, probably because created in old database, not the new database PostgreSQL. much categories, in 4.8, inserted in "unassigned category".

now i created a virtual machine, i reinstalled the old win8 machine, with DS4.7 and now i have the my old custom categories. I would like to make compatible the categories for DS4.8 and avoid that DS4.8. when i do "import old content" can inserted many categories in "unassigned category"

how can i do?
PS: sorry for my english

if in the forum there is a italian maybe he can help me on translate.
thank you

In 4.7, Content DB Maintenance > Export User Data, then when you Re-Import Metadata it will include your custom categories.

  • This isn't a solution.  That doesn't work reliably and you're often not going to remember to export the user data.  The data HAS to be stored somewhere.  RAM is whiped when you restart your computer but the categories remain.  That means the data HAS to be stored somewhere on the hard drive.  Does anyone know where this new system keeps the data?  Is there a way to permentanly get rid of this new system and move to something that isn't hiding the data so we can actually move things around again?  I used to have a system that would work because I knew where my data was.  Now the data is hidden and I can't get to it.  I cannot understand why this has been done.  Backing up the data like this simply doesn't work.  It is an ENORMOUS hassle to have to remember to export your user data continually to ensure that you have things backed up and even that doesn't work because many times it won't actually back up when you tell it to and you won't realize it and then you have to start all the way over again.

Why is it so difficult to find the data?  Where is it stored?   Why isn't it just stored in the content directory?!  It has to be stored somewhere even if you haven't attempted to do a backup.  If I can find out where that is and control where that is, then I can set that destination so it's bundled into my content directory.  That way you don't have to go through a tutorial to move things and continually wind up losing all of your metadata.  It just makes so much sense to do things this way.  This way everything would be automatic and all of these problems would go away.

It is not difficult to find the data.  It is in a Support folder in your library folder, if you have more than one library it will usually be in the first one list in the Content Directory Manager.
