about the new Long Side Linday Hair

dForce Classic Long Side Bangs Hair for Genesis 9 and 8 Female | Daz 3D
A great hair, as always, but I ran into a problem with Genesis8Female. The hair _slowly_ explodes.
It is getting bigger and bigger, the longer the simulation runs.
The quick work around is to switch off self colliding in the material simulation tab.
I wonder, why this is on on almost every dforce hair product anyway for it just doesn't make sense anyway.
So, switch off self colliding and everything works fine ... and faster.

    I don't have it.

Are you simulating from default pose?

And/or have you tried lowering collision offset?

And yes, without self collision will be much faster as there is much less geometry to calculate collisions for.

I don't have it yet either, but I use dforce hair always and always leave collision on and never have any issues. If this hair is exploding, might be time for a support ticket

Hi, we´re sorry that you have this issue with dforce hair.

    1. Our hair is designed with self collision always on, cause it´s important that the hair layers collide during simulation with each other - it generates the final shape. We´ve tried DIM files on clean PC on G8F and it worked.

    2. The issue might be that if you simulated it from memorized pose on and the way from base pose to final figure pose is too complicated ( figure is turning more than 180 degrees), in this case it´s better to use included preset memorize pose off.

    3. All attachments such as eyelashes, eyebrows, etc. should be turned off during simulation.

Please send us your scene, so we can see what could be the problem.

Thanks to everyone for your support

first @Linday, thank you so much for still supporting G8Fs!  Have almost every one your cloth dforce hairs. :)

Just bought and tried this new hair.
Using a G8F.  Loaded this new default hair, eyelashes on, posed, ran simulation.  20 seconds later sim done and looked normal. For whatever is worth, worked normal and expected.

Masterstroke, do you have something dforce on head? Or is your figure itself got dF added for soft-body physics?
Usually when it grows larger sounds like there is another dF thing is colliding with.
Could be something wonky for your setup, but never had that with DF yet. But had other other odd wonky thing.

  • @Linday Thanks for another great hair asset... I bought it instantly, as I do with the majority of your stuff, kind of like when you learn of a movie with your favorite actor in it :)

Can you please say anything about the model in the promo? Particularly the skin asset?

so, I played a little bit more with this hair.
Any other Linday hair figure just works fine. This bigger growing hair only happens with this one.
It also happens on a G8F all default settings without further attachments.
The issue might be due the Collision Mode setting "Good".
"Better" and "Best" seem to work, but again no problem there with other Linday hairs.
    BTW:

Can you please explain real quick "Self Collision" to me?
My understanding is, that those layers always collide against each other, but when "Self Collide" is swithed off, only everything within this particular Material Surface is intersecting.
Different Material Surfaces still collide with each other.

And to me it is not an OMG problem, I just noticed it and showed a work around. It also made me curious, what the reasons might be.
    And:
Thanks for helping and quick answering

I have the hair and I tried it with G8 and 8.1. It drapes nicely, no blowup or anything. Lovely hair :)

Hi thank you so much, it means a lot, character is Millawa 8 Head 30%, Monique 8 Head 20% and Twosret 8 Head 60%, skin asset is Millawa 8.

Hi, collision mode settings shouldn´t be a problem.

My understanding is, that those layers always collide against each other, but when "Self Collide" is swithed off, only everything within this particular Material Surface is intersecting.
Different Material Surfaces still collide with each other.  We understand it this way too, but in 1 hair layer that has 1 material zone are minimum 2 layers of hair strand tubes and if Self Collision is OFF , these tubes don´t collide and the haircut looks limp.

We don´t know what could cause this growing, is it also happening when G8F is in base pose? Have you tried to reinstall the product?

Please let us know how it is going.

do hope you fix your error and then share what fix was, in case any of us get this same issue. smiley

  • Love the hair. It would be fantastic if it included shapes to change the part from left to right.
I would love to see this in all the hair assets that have a part in the hair.

I am not sure if it is OK to hijack the thread and put a suggestion here. I apologize if that is rude.

  • One simple way of swapping the parting side is to have an XScale of -100%. Regards, Richard.

    One more advice:
Create a "bool" Controler for this and name it e.g. "Invert".

So you can flip the hair with one click.

@Linday  That would be cheeky, but I'll ask anyway.blush Uh, excuse me.
What are the parameters of this model - 1 2?  Or are they the same?

  • Just got to say that Linday makes the best dforce hair hands down.  The best

I mirrored the Linday Long Side Bangs with Mirror Geometry for Genesis 9, and it worked great. It was easy and mirrored all the parts. So now I have a version with the part on the left side of her head. The character is Laura from the updated Starter Essentials.
