Creating a custom skin- Matching the back of the head with the rest of the body

I have been bit by the creation bug, and have bought a merchant resource  kit to make my own character and skin. I find I am having some trouble in particular with the back of the head seam matching the front facial seam. Because of the different resolutions, stretching at these parts I can get somewhat close, but no enchilada.  I have experimented and been able to reduce my brush size for the back of the head, but there is still a visible seam there where the face meets the rear scalp. Is there a better way to handle this? Or any info on matching textures? I'm gettting closer, but so far haven't been able to irradicate the seam.

I am using gen 2 male, as the base. I have made the detail pretty extensive on the face, and have tried to begin work on the scalp and body. But I wanted to do the best I can to get the seams to work first. Thanks...

How are you going about this...2D image editor or 3D painting?

For 2D apps like Photoshop...trial and error are about the only ways I know of to match across seams,  I'm sure there has to be a better way, but I haven't found it yet.  That's one of the great advantages of a 3D painting program.

Seams are always going to be easier in a 3d painting app.  You might look into one.
