Dissecting a Full Body morph so it only affects certain body parts

I have a full body morph for Genesis that I've purchased. I'm creating a character but would only like to use the leg part of the morph. How do I dial out the other affected areas? Or is that even possible? I tried reading documentation about morphs, morph assets, shape presets and got very confused.

    Not really.

There have been some very complicated discussions suggesting it's technically possible, however a major task to accomplish. And you would have to do it externally from Daz.

One method was editing the morph in a text editor...and knowing which verts should change and which ones should not in the text editor. So...yeah....

If you are going to use the resultant shape of the leg after it is morphed on the same base character i.e. Genesis to Genesis, G2 to G2 or G3 to G3, you could try loading the base figure, applying the morph, then going into File>Save As>Shape Preset. It will ask you a name and show a directory to save it in, which you can choose. Remember where you put it. It will then give you a selector screen with the figure selected. You can cursor to the right at the top of the window to the little box, click on it, Select "Expand all", then "Uncheck All". None of the figures parts should be checked off. Scroll down through them all, looking for the "legs" , which you then check off. Then select "accept" it. You should end up with a shape that you can File>merge <Name of saved shape> and the body part should change its shape to your saved image.

When I first started doing these, I had to play around a little with it to get it right. Hopefully, you'll get it right off the bat.

  • Thanks Reelyor, that helps. I had read about the shape preset thing, but was clueless as to what to do after I saved it. Wasnt really sure what the "merge" thing was and nothing I read discussed that was the next step after creating the shape preset.

that method does nothing for me.

  • I tried the above mentioned method as well. What I got was the whole body morph. I dont need the whole thing, just the legs. There has got to be a way to do this.

It would be simple to do that in post.  Render two identical images, one with and without the special morph dialed in.  Load both images into any paint program that accepts layers, putting the main image on top and the image with the desired morph body part underneath.  Use the eraser brush on the top image to expose the morphed body part underneath.

  • Ended up exporting as a CR2 from Studio and then edited it in CR2Editor. Seemed to work.
