I'm looking for cartoon'ish looking hair for Genesis figures (something like "Sadie and Sam Hairstylz" [ https://www.daz3d.com/sadie-and-sam-hairstylz ] but in an updo hairstyle something like these ...
- Top Updo for Genesis 3, 8, and 8.1 Females [ https://www.daz3d.com/top-updo-for-genesis-3-and-8-females ]
- Historique Updo for Genesis 8 Female [ https://www.daz3d.com/historique-updo-for-genesis-8-female ]
- Libra Updo for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Female [ https://www.daz3d.com/libra-updo-for-genesis-8-and-81-female ]
- Rose Noel Updo for Genesis 8 and 8.1 Female [ https://www.daz3d.com/rose-noel-updo-for-genesis-8-and-81-females ]

I have some suggestions based on a very quick check of my runtime (with cats meowing at me!):
https://www.daz3d.com/toon-generations-4-hair-for-genesis-8-females - there are some updos in this package.
https://www.daz3d.com/toon-generations-4-hair-for-genesis-8-males - if you need updated male hairs to go with the ladies.
https://www.daz3d.com/d4m-charity-hair-for-genesis-3-female-s-bundle - there are various iterations of each hair that go from toon to realistic, and one is kind of an updo. I would check out Lady Littlefox's store also.
https://www.daz3d.com/fsl-toon-hair-shaders-iray - I am not positive, but maybe you can try to use this shader to change a normal updo into a toon one?

None of these are for Genesis. I tried using a G8F hair and it increased the size of my saved file by a factor of FIVE.
If you use a covnersion tool then the data that was in the /data folder, in .dsf fiels, for the original will now be embedded in the scene - it won't, however, increase the amount of memory the sceen uses. In any event, for hair it is often best to simply adjust it and parent it to the head - which shouldn't add much to the scene file size.
I tested the updo/bun from Toon Generations 4 (hair 04) and since I don't have a converter for Genesis 8 or 8.1 to Genesis, I told DAZ Studio that it was meant for Genesis 3 Female, short hair. I used Jazlyn.
The autofit worked perfectly (very surprising, as I rarely have good results with hair) and I rendered out a couple of samples that I'll continue to try to upload over the next few hours, just in case the forum software decides to stop being a jerk and allow it.
The scene size went up by way, way more than a factor of five. If you ignore hyperbole of "factor of", it's not too bad. The scene went from 117 KB to 1.7 MB. Adding two megabytes to a file size shouldn't hurt anyone too much.
That said, definitely use the Toon hairs. I did another test using Miranda hair and the scene file ballooned to 23.2 MB, so the hair you actually use makes a bigger difference than which generation you choose.

Thank you. The issue isn't two meg -- I average about 60-80 scenes per story. Multiply that by 2-3 characters per scene and space quickly gets eaten up. When I was new to DAZ, I didn't realize how much of a space hog autofit was and I quickly filled up a one terabyte drive. Since then, I have become much more space conscious. My DAZ scenes are currently using 2.6 terabytes. It probably would have been half of that if I was more careful in the beginning. Thanks again.
I found a unique way to address my issue. I found the hair styles that I was looking for in Genesis and appied a toon shader and ir gave me the look that I was after. Thanks to everyone for your suggestions.
Excellent, glad you got it sorted.
I'm not sure which hair shader you used, but I'm a huge fan of Destiny's Garden's Toon Hair shader (3DL and iRay):
