I have a new hobby: Leather Craft

I'm a big guy. My wrists are over 8" around (years ago, they were 12"!). I had a hard time finding a leather cuff bracelet that fits. I made my own.

I started with a 3" wide piece of leather that was 60" long. I got a set of snaps to connect the bracelet. My first bracelet was a sad affair. The second bracelet is just fine. For now I just want a simple bracelet. Later I will buy more tools, and make intricate designs,

Good for you for taking on a new craft! Leather tooling can be quite beautiful.

  • Thanks, barbult.

Congratulations!... I look forward to seeing you craft an entire suit of armor class 12+ studded leather armor one day!... (I haven't played D&D in a really long time so that's probably not accurate)...
Okay, maybe that's a bit much, you probably don't have a lot of goblins in your neighborhood and it's probably overkill to wear to the grocery store... Still... it's 2023... and the way stuff is going it might not be a bad idea, what with the murder hornets, giant Asian spiders, eagles dropping snakes on people and the roaming bands of Land Orcas attacking cyclists... I mean what's the worst that'll happen, you have a cool suit of leather armor that never really get used except for Halloween and Christmas... and best case scenario, you survive going out to get the mail when the Chipmunk Wars begin.

Either way, that's a good beginning to a new hobby, I hope you find lots of satisfaction in it... good luck.

Ron Knights, that already looks very neat. There are endless hallmarking irons for leatherwork that you can order on the internet if you want to decorate your things. I once thought about doing leatherwork too, but then 3D got in the way....  ;-) Have fun and good luck with your new hobby!

  • Mcgyver, those goblins out there are asking for you! They want to fight!

caravelle, thanks. I am stumbling along, slowly. I still have much to learn.

  • Now that is practical and useful hobby. Good for the dexterity.  Plus you get the wear the results in real life.  Sounds like a win-win.

A leather bag might be a good project. And reusable bags are useful. It also would have plenty of space to put a fun image on the sides.
