If it's not already showing, click on the very small tab of the Additional Info Divider at the bottom of the Smart Content or Content Library window to expose the additional info window.  There you can select the Tags tab and enter whatever keywords (tags) that you wish.  For example, many science fiction items have as part of their name, either Sci Fi, Sci-Fi or SciFi.  To ease my future searches for science fiction items, I enter scifi (case doesn’t matter) as a tag for one item in a product.  You don’t need to tag every item in a product.  I only tag one.  To find content with a certain tag (keyword) instead of searching for something in the name of the product, search for the tag using key::desired_tag.  When searching under Products, for example, in Smart Content, I can search for key::scifi and get all of the products with that tag on a file.

Below are two screen captures of an item that I recently bought called Time Tunnel.  I want to be able to find it easily if I am looking for science fiction items or fantasy items.  I entered the tags scifi and fantasy as tags.

Do you accept virtual hugs? Because wow. Thank you. That's so much easier than doing the multiple tab meta mambo. Though I don't see it in the Smart Content folder, but I do notice it in Products. Though in messing around with the Smart Content pane, I checked out "Basic View" instead of "Standard" and fell in love with how many more product icons fit in the space I gave it. Edit: Oh, you added pictures. That... You're the best.

Glad to be of assistance.  I've learned a lot in the forums that I frequent thanks to other users either posting good-to-know info or answering questions.  Smart Content only has the option for tags in Products but not in Files.  There's so much to learn in Daz Studio and similar software.  At this point, comprehensive documentation is likely never going to be forthcoming because it would be too lengthy and constantly out of date as updates and new features are added.  Press on though.

Thanks Richard.  I also somehow earlier missed that one can enter tags from the Files tab of Smart Content.

@Korpin.Sulat - You have three places where you can enter a tag on a file:

    1. Smart Content's Files tab
    2. Smart Content's Products tab after navigating to a file for a product
    3.  Content Library

I hadn't bought much at DAZ for a few years. I got mildly excited by the arrival of Genesis 9. I rejoined the PC Club. I cancelled the subscription soon after.

One thing about DAZ's products turns me off. Too many products use "vanity names" for their content. If I buy a "pirate" shirt, I want to find it listed as a "pirate" shirt. I don't want to guess what PA made the product, and look under a PA's folder. And now it appears there is a shortage of male clothing.

Re: vanity and 'generic' names like "Pirate" shirt- the trouble is when files are all named the same for different products- for example if two PAs  make a pirate shirt and both are are in the same runtime and Category and location, and if they just name it Pirate shirt, it'll conflict with the other. If two characters for the same figure have the same  name, it might overwrite, or call on the wrong fix morphs/jcms and cause other issues.  I've had to go back and rename a character because it was the exact same name, spelling, and morphs as another PA's and they'd have conflicted with each other, so things are required to have the vendor's initials in front and separate the folder locations to limit that kind of issue.  I thought it was kind of hilarious at the time because I'd looked very carefully for a name that wasn't already used in Daz and another primary market, and yet STILL managed to submit at the same time as another PA who had a character of the same exact name. Glad I caught it in time though, because when that happens people always get upset and blame the PA "why is this morph messing up???? This PA does garbage work!" or Daz "why didn't Daz catch this?"  and then we all hustle to fix stuff but the thread is still there complaining about a bad character morph when its really a conflict of two instead.  So there's reason for the "vanity" and it's to help keep every data name unique and working without problems. :) That said, isn't smart content supposed to help you find things by category? I don't use it myself ... I'm too set in my ways and install everything manually. ;)

and there's a lot of clothes for G9 if you like lingerie times 1000 :P

I joke but I do get the general frustration with not being able to buy a lot. All I can say is, there's a lot of sales at daz and a lot of very very high discounts. The odds are in your favor

Here's what I've been doing. Maybe it could help you. I hate thse vanity folders, too. But sometimes it is useful to know the PA that created a thing (like if you need to find the texture folder something has). So I remove all the nested folders down to just one and name it the name of the item with the PA's name AFTER it.  So that pirate outfit is called "Pirate Whatever Jasmineskunk" or "Pirate Whatever JS" (pretending I'm the PA here) That lets me sort it and have the PA's moniker without that ID getting in the way of my search.

there is nothing wrong with daubing (painting over) renders either

it's actually what Poser back in the old days was made for

do basic renders and postwork the hell out of them

    paint in content

...there's a fellow on DA (Kurt Lundqvist) who still does that albeit with images that he first renders in Daz.   Mostly his work sporting themed but it's very well done and he gives them more of an "oil paint " style.

As indicated, that's pretty much what I do, except I put the vendor designator first. No special reason why.

Some products are named such that they are easy to find in a normal search.  Others … not so much.  Daz Studio does have the ability to add tags to content, though.  It can be done in either the Content Library or Smart Content.

The fact I have been using studio for a year now and did not even know this has existed... well this just shows another problem :D

Features like this should be more more visible, promoted and enhanced!

,,,same of us have been dealing with it for many years. Hence why I set u custom library/runtime structure  I still make use of older content that goes into the Poser runtime structure and that was even more of a mess as Daz textures would end up in the Poses folder instead of Materials which  makes no sense at all. I grouped them mile newer content with a folder for Materials as a "child" folder to the main one.  for each item.  Yeah a lot of bloody work but it makes things so much easier.

What goes into the Data, Geometry (for old content), and textures folders should not be moved or you will get broken path errors when loading items into a scene..

Considering how I have my runtimes and folders set up I have no problem finding them. As for the artists name on folders, I prefer it, then I know who to credit for my renders. Credit is a big thing if you are required to do so for contests, animations, games, you name it. Sadly not many people credit the creators of the products they used.

In case you (or someone else) didn't already know about it, the name of an author will appear on the tooltip when you let your mouse cursor hover over an icon:
