Undo Functionality and Render Settings

I don't seem to be able to find any previous posts in the forums relating to this issue (two related issues actually), despite the fact that it is a major glitch IMO, so I decided to create a new post.

First off, I'm running DAZ Studio 4.8. I haven't encountered this issue with earlier versions of DAZ Studio, and it seems to be related to changes made to the Render Settings dialogue to accommodate Iray.

So, to get to the point, am I the only one to have found that changing or editing the filename (where render-to-file is selected) causes wonky behaviour in the filename dialogue under Render Settings? Here's what happens to me: I place the cursor part way through a filename in the dialogue in order to edit it, I begin typing, only to discover that only one character gets entered at the cursor position selected, than the cursor immediately jumps to the end of the existing filename. It only seems to accept one character at a time entered anywhere other than at the end. Not a problem if you are completely replacing a filename, but a major PITA if you are only trying to edit it. As I said, previous versions of Studio behave in a more expected fashion.

The second (and I suspect, related) issue is the Undo function in DS 4.8. I use this function fairly regularly in working with scenes, and in previous versions of DS, it primarily showed scene changes that had been made. In 4.8, however, changes to render settings also started showing up in the undo queue. This wouldn't necessarily be a big issue, except for the fact that when I have edited a filename under Render Settings, it records each and every character entered as a separate and individual entry in the undo queue! This is particularly annoying if I try to undo any earlier changes to the scene, since I need to go back and undo all the changes to the filename one letter at a time, to get to what I'm after. Additionally, since the undo queue is limited, if the filename edits contain more than a certain number of characters, those edits completely fill the queue, making any earlier changes unavailable.

As I say, I haven't found any other forum references to this issue. Am I the only one that is experiencing this, or is it simply not an issue for anyone else?

  • The filename oddness is a known issue.
I haven't tried, but could you type the name in another window (a text editor, say) and paste it in? That would presumably take only one undo.

Thanks, Richard. Good to know it wasn't something only I was experiencing.

As for your suggestion, I tried it and can report that you are correct - pasting any amount of text at any cursor position in the filename dialogue changes the filename as expected and results in a single undue action in the queue. So, for the time being, typing all filenames and edits into a text editor and then copying and pasting seems to be the workaround, although a little clumsy.

    Thanks again.
