Can Poser be bad for your computer?

I use Poser and sometimes I worry that I'm damaging my comp by using it.

My renders usually don't take that long and on rare occassions may take up to a day but it's usually about an hour.

However I notice that my CPU is at 100% usually when rendering or doing stuff with Poser, but usually only with Poser.

The temps stay around 60, and on the old comp sometimes got up to 70 during a render.

If your computer can't run at 100% for 24hrs a day and 365 days a year, then its faulty. smiley

Those temps sound perfectly normal for full CPU load.

(Laptops have a different set of rules, but who in their right mind would get a laptop for 3D?) cheeky

Forcing a Laptop to work hard for long periods will affect its life; the same can be said of a desktop, but a with a laptop, you pay more to get the same performance as a desktop, so you're increasing your costs more than you need to; that lack of room is costing you money. :(

And no matter how much you pay, you still are not going have the same air flow/cooling potential in a laptop as in even the most cramped desktop machine.  And heat is the number one cause of computer death.

Don't worry about it unless you get "ERROR" messages. The operating system, hardware / firmware and bios have safe guards to protect your computer. Render on and don't worry!.

One can purchase [or make] inexpensive little half spheres or some such to use as "legs" under a laptop to provide more airflow under the machine. Don't know if it truly helps or not but on hot days I'll also put an extra fan on in the room aimed at the laptop just to be sure that there's ample air flow.

They don't prevent the extra wear that prolonged use will cause; like I said, there is an affect.

I thought that was what I said, using different words admittedly.
