waterfall

hi everybody!!!   whar would be, in your opinion, the best way to do a distant waterfall, in an animation in carrara 8 pro?    a metaball thing, a particle, a footage of waterfall on an alpha plane? (although that last solution is a bit expansive, the footages available aren't free!)...

I saw Varsel work on a waterfall in the following thread.

Not sure if there is enough detail in the description, but might be a place to start.

Never saw any convincing looking "native" waterfall animation in Carrara.

I think good looking waterfalls you can get with alpha plane footage, realflow or blender and import it into Carrara.

Particularly for a distant waterfall, if you can get apppropriate footage, then mapping that to a plane would probably be the best approach. If you wanted to generate something in Carrara, I would start with mapping a moving texture to a plane, where the polygons get larger as you go down it to give the feel of acceleration of the water as it falls (or you could adjust the UV map to get a similar effect). You could combine that with a particle effect, and some other effects for the spray at the bottom (which could include volumetric clouds, particles and/or different animated textures). Depends on how distant and how detailed you need it to be.

  • Hi laverdet, I did a waterfall using the fire primitive a while back that might work for you. It's on shareCG as a car file so it will be easy for you to try out.
