Render settings selections are now italics

Not sure what happened but I rendered a scene, changed some stuff, put it to scene only for lighting. It rendered, but after that all the render settings choices turn italic and cannot be selected. I can still change quite a bit in the parameter tab and selectining environment in the scene tab. 

Thing is, how do I get the main render settings to work again.

Do you have Preferences>Show hidden proeprties checked in the pane's option menu?

@ Barbult  i have rebooted ..its working now
@Richard I did not have a chance to look at the preferences as I ended up rebooting prior to seeing this. Thanks..I will check that for sure in future
