How to work with Kid 4 and Dog? Mostly resolved!

I can get a kid and a dog on my screen, but can't move or size them independently. Dog is way too big. Does it have to be a puppy? The figures don't respond properly to the special joint poses.  The kid SOMETIMES assumes the correct position, but the dog pose seems to change arbitrarily or not at all.

Any help would be appreciated!

Next day:  I've gone back to it now and bumbled around enough to figure most of it out.  For others who are confused & new to this, I'll briefly state what I learned.

First off, I assumed that because "Kid and Dog"  is a group of poses for those two figures together, that choosing a pose would  magically put a child and a dog on the screen, in the pose shown.  Duh.

I had to do everything through the Content Library, since this is old material, without Smart Content. So, I had to load The Kid 4 and load the Millinium dog (or puppy- it doesn't seem to matter which), then find "Kid and Dog".  Each pose is shown twice.  The image that has "k4" in the name will pose the child, while the one with "mp" in the name will pose the dog/puppy. You can select the dog or child, then hit the appropriate icon to pose THAT figure independently or, if you hit a pose icon when nothing is selected, a prompt will ask what you want to pose.  I know...this is very basic, but I haven't done much with my DAZ stuff, so I got very confused yesterday.

Once the figures have been posed, it's necessary to select each one separately and use the translation sliders to move them as needed. I also realized that whichever one is selected is "on top" where they touch.  Example: in a pose where the child is leaning against the dog, her head and neck sank into the dog's body, because the dog was selected when I moved them into position!

I own the Kids 4 Pro bundle, plus a few other Kids 4 packages, bought separately.  I had to go to the product descriptions and write down the names of all of the components from the bundle, etc., because (without smart content!!) it was so awkward to find hair and clothing for my child.

This brings up a new question: Looking at the icons in the Content Library, what does the scroll in the upper left corner mean?  Why can't I use these items?

Thanks in advance for any answers.

Can you be more specific?  How did you load them, what poses or adjustments are you trying to apply, and what happens?

  • I edited my previous post, instead of making a separate response.

    Please reread the above.  Thanks.

The scroll means there are DS-optimized settings which are used instead of the Poser settings.  Most of the time those are material settings, so you have to have the appropriate figure loaded and selected in the scene to apply them.
