Was going to ask Oso for advice on how to do clothes with fur... but the Cat EXPLODED! 8/

It seems that all of my attempts to put clothes on furred creatures result in the fur poking through the cloth, no matter which fur type (dForce Hair, LAMH, Garribaldi, Strand Based, etc).

At least with Strand Based, it's supposed to be easy to edit the areas of the body to be too short for poking through.

But with Oso's fur system being different from Strand Based Hair, I am also interrested in finding out how he was managed to clothe his FelineFolk products. So, I set up the scene to make screen shots, using his Furred FelineFolk Female for G8 wearing the dForce COG Gown for G8F.

Here is the start pose @ 0:

And my intended end pose @ 30:

I was hoping the hem of the dress would hike up her thighs and tail as the animation played out, but since the time was so short, I doubled several parameters in the Simulation Tab (Stabilization Time, FPS Multiplier, Subframes, Interation/Subframe, Collision Iterations/Subframe, Start Bones From Memoraized Pose to OFF, and Collision Mode to BEST), then launched it.

Unfortunately, the dress did no rise up her thishs or tail as her pose changed. Instead it simply stretched to the breaking point (the good news is the dress WAS reacting to the tail).

At the 14s Frame of the simulation:

Then it got to the next frame:

And my reaction:

Suddenly, there was a heavy explosion. The ground heaved, windows shattered and gusts of smoke erupted into the air. People clawed their way off the Common, and I ran too. I felt I was being toyed with, that when I was on the very verge of safety, this mysterious death would leap after me and strike me down.

Then DAZ crashed.

Who could possibly have imagined that cloth and fur could be such a volitile combination here!? cool

Any suggestions on how to fix that? Thanks!

there is a post somewhere where I asked about this I will try and find

  • Thank you very much Wendy! laugh

The problem is if the items intersect at the begining of the simulation (i.e. if the fur pokes through the clothing) there is a high risk that dForce can't find a solution and that will cause explossion. One reason Daz crashed might be that it didn't actually crash, but was trying to solve the simulation, and it therefore just would be busy for a long time.

I do not know how Oso did it.

My suggestion would be to scale the clothing up at the start of the simulation and maybe at frame 15 scale it back to normal size, and then pose at frame 40, letting the simulation run till frame 60.

    https://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/643406/released-oso-cat-for-genesis-9#latest

    it was actualy the rabbit

the Feline folk like the G9 cat hiding body parts on the fur should help but like suggested there editing copies of density maps should too

I would simulate it with the clothing hidden too, freeze it and add clothing afterwards to simulate (and not have the fur visible) like I do with lots of layers of Dforce clothes anyway

I wouldn't simulate a dress with fur, because the fur is going to go haywire on the dress. SO I'd either hide the fur until the dress sim is done or set it to be not visible in sim.

As for how to get it to fit under clothes, you can hide parts of the body of the fur, or you can render twice (once with fur, once without) and try to composite it.

I've been experimenting with Genesis 9 products to have more special clothing fit presets that clip the fur in various spots.

    There is no easy solution.

Thanks felis and Wendy for the advice. Resizing sounds like it might work better than trying to hide the body parts beneath the dress. With the major droop of its cleavage and the pose exposing her thighs, I think it's doubtful that would work as well.

I started doing the resizing and shifting the pose, but it's going to be some time before I can see the results. It takes DS to shift those key frames to the new locations on the timeline. I'll let you know how it goes.

Oh, sorry, Oso. I didn't see your post until I replied to above.

This is true. Although, the advice I got from felis gets her past the point where the dress is returned to normal size, but there's still a detonation once the pose gets to a point where the tail is ripping throught the dress.

I was able to get to Frame 43 out of 61 beofe that happens, though! I'm sure with some more tweaking with the dress segments will be successful. The cat's pose to the crouching position is completed by Frame 45 and is held to 61, so I am close! laugh

Unfortunately, this mulch will have to wait until tomorrow--the REAL BOSS (aka "wife") is putting an end to tonight's efforts.

    dForce is so janky.

When it works, it works well.

    WHEN being the operative word.

I had an exploding problem with my Lorelle Gown and poses where the legs stretch the cloth too far. I found a sort of solution by using the geometry editor tool to cut slits in the sides of the undergown to prevent the tearing just like one would alter a real dress. I was able to simulate it on a (z gymnast) split handstand that I was using as an extreme stress-test.

You're problem reminded me to experiment with that idea, and I thought I'd share it in the off-chance that method is of any use. Sorry, if it's not. I hope you find a fix.

Also, thank you for the advice. I was able to finally identify several issues going on, that were interacting to cause the problems.

    1) during the transition from her default standing pose to the final squatting pose, I discovered one of her hands was passing through her knee. Fixed that by adjusting some of her hand position in the tween Frames.

    2) the dress I was using might not work for this at all, since the hem seems to be stuck to her knees and the tail just rips the physical act of the ultimate expression of affection out of the dress. Likely, your suggestion for editing the geometry to have a slit in the back would likely work. In my case, I got better results by changing to another outfit with a higher hem. I nearly got it to work at last, but there was  still one more problem:

    3) found the final squatting itself is too extreme anyhow--the cloth of the dresses were being forced to intersect itself and the figure. ATM, I have to put this on hold to deal with a few RL issues until I'm able to get back on the machine and can adjust her final pose. Hopefully, this should finally fix the matter.

Again, thank you all for your help! It's very much appreciated. heart

  • Okay, thank you everyone for all your advice. I finally got it to work (sort of).

Ultimate results are: the Clubbing Cowl Dress for G2F looks great when she's doing poses that are relatively standing or normal walking, but it's not a good one to choose that is going to involve anything that has tail swinging about wildly back there. It's probably better to use something with a hem no lower than mid-thigh, such as the Aurola Warrior Wolf Dress (or just hide the bloody tail poking through the cloth!).

And definitely have to be mindful of any poses that cause her limbs to intersect other body parts--including and especially through those 'Tween Frames!

Even so, still had a lot of fur poking through in the end, but I was able to mitigate that using Alvin Bémar's Thickener plugin (and a sly little cheat, to hide a bit of fur that was STILL poking throuhg that).

    Cheers!
