DIM Connection Problem

Hi, I've been trying and trying to get the DIM to connect to my account, but it will not.  I can't figure out what's wrong.  I am using the correct log in information.

Thank you.

Can you post the bottom of the DIM log when you try to connect?  Did it ever work for you?

Yes, it worked at one time, but no more. :-)

I'll see if I can grab the log.  Thanks!

Here's the error message at the bottom of the log.  Invalid certificate -- that's the same notice I get for one other site, and they say I don't have the "right" kind of certificate.

Well, at least it's narrowed the problem somewhat. :-)

Hmm, not seen that before, might be worth sending thTech Support.  Are you using a proxy server?  What security software do you use?

No, not using a proxy server that I'm aware of.  I've got two AV programs installed, but the AV's aren't generating any sort of error message.  And they usually do, if it's something I need to verify with those programs.

I'll drop a note to tech support. :-)  The other site had to send me a new certificate, not that it worked either.  But I might've waited too long to install that one.

All right, thanks for your help!  At least I know what the error message is now!

Edit:  Done, tech support request submitted.  Don't know why I didn't do this before.  Thank you again!

Kaspersky was having some issues with this not long ago, I don't know if they got it resolved or not ( I don't use that one) , are you running Kaspersky by any chance?

Yes, that's one of the programs I use.  It's a backup.  But it's not generating an error message.  I had to install a certificate for ToolBag2, but the AV gave me a definite pop up on that one.  I installed the certificate, and all was well.  :-)  This error message comes from DIM.

Also, double check the time/date on your computer...if they are wrong (especially date) it can invalidate certificates. Time not so much as date...

Time/date are perfect.  Same as my cell phone.  :-)

    Thanks, icecrmn and mjc!

Try disabling the "Do not check encrypted connections" feature, and then try to login with DIM.

edit:actually,,, enable that feature,,sorry kids just came back from trick or treat

Actually check the BIOS clock/time/date...you'll need to reboot to do that.

A few months back my son had trouble signing into Steam and that was the problem...the year was wrong in the BIOS.

I was going to ask...is that safe?  :-)

    OK, will do!  :-)

Well,,,if the cert you have really is invalid, then no, not really

, if the check isn't working anyway, then it won't matter, because the check isn't working properly.

Have you had issues loging in to other sites?

Marmoset, with TB2, but installing the new certificate worked there.  The one that's still NOT working is Marvelous Designer.  I've been trying to check out a trial of MD5, seeing if I want to upgrade, but can't connect to their server to log into the doggone trial edition.

Actually check the BIOS clock/time/date...you'll need to reboot to do that.

A few months back my son had trouble signing into Steam and that was the problem...the year was wrong in the BIOS.

Just googled how to do that, and that's a little intense for me.  I did re-synchronize my clock with the Internet clock though, and the message said all was synchronized.

I'll go back to the BIOS subject and see if I can at least check that.  :-)

Thanks, I appreciate you all trying to help.

Edit:  I think I'll hold off messing with the BIOS.  I'm really not that tech savvy.  Maybe tech support can help.  :-)  Thanks again!

    You're welcome :)

Hope you get it sorted out soon.

    Thanks, me too!  :-)

I did manage to get into the BIOS (fans face), checked date/time, and it's fine.  I was hesitant to mess with the innards of this machine -- last time I did that, trying to fix a stalled update snarl, it took me 17 hrs to get everything running again. blush  But this time, I got in and out with no problem.  Whew -- computers can work on my nerves. ;-)

I do appreciate the help though.

I think you just have an agressive cert check from your AV, not a bad thing, but can be a pain.At this point though, importing a new cert that we know is valid is the only way to be certain you have a valid one.

If you have a secondary av installed, you could use it in the mean time, and just disable the kaspersky version,You really don't need more than one av, it can cause issues if not configured correctly.

Could be.  :-)  At first that's sort of what I thought, but Kaspersky is never shy about expressing its opinion about a certificate.  And this message doesn't look like a Kaspersky message.  But you may be right.  smiley

The reason I have two AVs is, I kept getting viruses with just one.  But with these two, all my scans have been clean.  I'll wait to see what tech support says about the certificate I have, whether it's an old one not moving aside for a new one or what.  Besides, my enthusiasm for trying the Beta (only available thru DIM) is waning.  There is something to be said for letting other users fight the bugs. laugh  But thank you!

Have you tried reinstalling DIM yet?

Maybe uninstalling and reinstalling DIM will update that certificate for you, or get you a valid one.

  • Jan19Jan19 Posts: 1,109

Yes, several times.  :-)  I even re-downloaded the DIM.  Seriously, icecrmn, it is ok.  I install files manually anyway -- DIM hasn't worked for me in awhile.

I thought I'd give the BETA a go, but I'll just wait until the final release. smiley  Thanks anyway, I do appreciate your suggestions!
