When did you come to DAZ?

Just curious when folks got started with DAZ?

I came at the tail end of G2 and beginning og G3. I have actually been going back and re-discovering G2 and buying stuff that I did not get thr first time around.

  • Before it was Daz ...

  • Although I first installed Daz at least 10-15 years ago, I didn't try to learn to use it until the summer of 2021. I had a sharp learning curve from day one on G3 vs G8 skins - in context of using FaceGen, which was the sole reason I finally did start using Daz at that time - but otherwise have always been G8/G8.1 figure based. I buy pre-Iray products from certain PAs I really like, or for subject matter that is sufficiently scarce as to justify conversion, but otherwise concentrate on poses and G3+  material.

  • I don't know. When did V4 and M4 come out? Then.

Before it was Daz and sold only products for Poser. This would be October 2003.

Would that be the time they joined the FORUM and not when they became a customer?

For a long time I only knew about the store and the gallery.

And it's funny to look back at all the buyer silliness.

    1) I thought HAIR/Wigs came with the characters.

    2) I did not know sales rotated and would just show up, search for an item and see what popped up and buy the closest fit.

    3) I thought brushes would 'brush' or apply directly on the prop/person.

    4) I would always get caught thinking something in the promo came with the set.

    5) I remember the first time I bought a 'glued-together' set and freaked out when I couldn't move anything.

    6) And the times you didn't know if a sale was really good or the store glitched.

    So many memories...

was probably a week before I joined the forum as came here after I messed up my library trying to "organise" it devil

I was already using Carrara 5 by Evocia for a few months and Sketchup with iClone3 and 3DX2, started with those about January after getting a Dell laptop with a lite version of Crazytalk installed so going to Reallusion to get more content, of course tnen I needed to model props as theirs dear and Carrara 5 was on a magazine disc, my modelling was atrocious but it all seemed pretty cool back then, I bought Poser7 in October because DAZ studio crashed all the time on my pathetic laptop but Poser and Carrara worked

V3 for me. I was designing SIMS addons and my design partner told me about poser, so I bought a copy and I was hooked! I didn't start using Daz Studio till right before genesis 2 was released and left poser behind because I wanted more realistic, unbiased lighting like I had with Vray in the past.

I registered with Zygote in 2000, followed them when they split off as Digital Art Zone later that year, and stayed with them when they became DAZ in 2003.

Winter in 2017, started from V4 and skipped G1.

when they were Zygote. The 1st product in my library states Dec 2001 .. for V 1 and 2.  I used Poser for quite awhile, probably G2/3 time frame befor I switched to DS.

Around June 2013. I remember frying my old PC's processor within a month or so of "whoa, cool, let's render this"...

Must have been 2003, after the Victoria 3 release.
I've started to use DAZStudio Software in 2014? with the release of Genesis 3 and the Iray renderer.

    September 2005.

There was a post on a long-gone graphics forum I'd been following - Poser 6 was out; it was pricey (for the time) but the upgrade from Poser 4 was cheap and Poser 4 was available very cheap. IIRC, purchasing 4, registering it, and upgrading to 6 was less than half the price of 6 by itself. That same post also indicated that V3 and M3 were available for free for a limited time. So I signed up here . . .

I never really got the hang of Poser - my mind-set was such that I worked in room 'a', went to room 'b' and then to room 'c' - it never occurred to me that the intent was to ping-pong back and forth between the Poser "rooms". Then Studio version 0.8 (IIRC) came out - with tabs instead of "rooms". I more or less dropped Poser at that point - Studio was just more intuitive for me.

My first recorded invoice here was 23 May 2002 - which is earlier than my apparent registration date of 2003. I know I had been downloading freebies before then - at the time freebies came as exe downloads you didn't have to register for. I first downloaded DS 0.7 Beta on 11 October 2004, and used it for my first image on Rendo in 2005. Regards, Richard.

My first listed order here was V3 in 2006 but I don't think I was using anything but Poser at the time. I don't think I posted anything on the forums at all in the beginning and it was only after I finally took the plunge ditching Poser after P11 and started using DS exclusively that I started using the forums.

went to the bottom page of product library list.  maybe a day or two before that. I think the earliest version of DazStudio installer that I still have is 1.8

At some point in 2009. Probably in the Spring/early Summer. Lurked around the store and forums for a couple of months before taking the leap. My first purchases, acto my store pages were in August of that year.
