New instal fails?

in New Users
I feel like a newbie again, been ages since I did any artwork, so on a freshly installed Win7 PC, I've got Studio 4.8 downloaded and trying to install, but it gets through to what I think must be the end of the install procedure - the bar graph has move all the way to the right - and then it stalls and does nothing more.
Any ideas for common install issues?
Win7, hardware drivers, GTX470OC with up to date nVidia drivers - Clean system install, plus BMD's DaVinci Resolve and a couple of CUDA apps.
Because it's a PC used for editing and the like, it is not connected to the 'net.

Is this installing with DIM or with a stand-alone installer? If the latter, are you using "Run as Administrator"?
Stand Alone, and tried both just the usual double-click to run, and Run as Admin, same result, machine was left to run last night, was stuck at same screen 8 hours later.
Going to go back and make sure download is definitly the Stand Alone - as before, the PC it's installing on has no network connection.
This download..... and it's a bit of a pain to find the Stand Alone - not all of us want 'net enabled installers Daz,..

Annnnd, fresh download gets to same place and stalls,...
It is the one with the Blue button that you need to download if you are not using DIM, the top of the column is labelled 'Manual'. The DIM ready on is a ZIP file, and not a .EXE.
I just downloaded the 64 bit version for Windows, and the file size is 276 MB, is yours the same? It may be a corrupt download that you are getting for some reason. The other thing to try would be DIM, and download it from there. DIM runs a 'helper' app which does the installation, and also removes any previous versions (of the same bit depth) that you have installed.
I haven't heard of any other problems with the installer, but I always use DIM, it is much simpler.
Yup, redownloaded that one, the 32 bit version, and went and pulled down an older version ( 4.5.1.56 ).
Neither of the 4.8.0.59 flavours installed, both hang on 'Content Management Service', which is at about the 99.95% mark - last bar of the graph.
The 4.5 version installed perfectly.
So I tried to install the 4.8 x32 version, which uninstalled the 4.5, and then ran the install, only to hang at the same place.
I'm guessing that the process is trying to dial home via the network, only to find there is no internet on that PC.
Actually I think it's trying to find one of the MS VC runtime packages...
If this is a fresh install of Windows, you probably don't have all the runtime packages installed and without a connection it can't fetch them.
I didn't think 4.8 had the CMS built in to the standalone installer. If you install PostgreSQL CMS first ( http://www.daz3d.com/downloader/customer/files/prod/18869/ ) does DS install?
I'd hope not - I needed to install all of those to get the latest nVidia drivers to install, so I could install Resolve.
I'll give that a go :)
Annnnnnd, nope.
More hard drive activity, and plenty of ram usage, but no completion.
Have you tried running the install as an admin?
I've had to use that to install a lot more things on my wife and daughter's laptopts with Windows lately. Not quite sure why,
Is you computer a 32 bit or 64 bit system?
MJC : that was dealt with earlier, same result.
Frank: Win7 x64, tried both versions, same result on both.
Now, instead of hitting cancel when it stalls, this latest time I used the Task Manager to stop the installer appp, without allowing the uninstaller to run, which happens if you hit cancel.
And then went to run Studio,... and no shortcut or item in the Start menu,... but there is for CMS and the SQL sections.
Created shortcut from the exe, program runs okay.
Wondering, does the Daz installer fall over if it has to deal with a desktop running the Classic Theme with Windows Classic Shell ??
