One of the things that I liked in Daz Central in addition to the larger thumbnails was that I could click on the thumbnail and it would take me to the product page at Daz. As far as I know, you can't do that with DIM.

Yes, this is a big thing for me, too. I'm so pleased we can use Central again for now. Unfortunately today I have a migraine and the bright white hurts, but I'm more than happy to suffer through it to look at all my new purchases. Please keep Central for good, Daz :(

There are also different filters that produce large thumbnails inside the Daz store that may help you find some items that you own.  One in particular to check off is called:  Only show items owned.

Where is that? I used to use that all the time but it has disappeared when they removed a whole slew of helpful filters?

I am happy that Daz Central got a stay of execution, hopefully that will turn into a permanent pardon?!

For me, it has been invaluable for coping with a decrease in life skills and still being able to do and enjoy 3D art. I would really hate to loose this very useful tool.

DIM has an info (i) button that will open the readme, and that will link to the product page if the product is still live. In Daz studio the right-click menu on a product will have a More Information command that will open the readme.

so there are many ways to find your stuff available, one only has to figure it all out. Thanks everyone for pointers. I think my mind shuts down when I realize how much stuff I have purchased here over the years. blush

I can see and use all the options in the Chrome Browser on my PC.  Firefox and Edge options are limited.

When you choose to SHOP at top of page, scroll down to about mid page and at the very left you will see a list:

    Categories
    Artist
    Genre
    Figure
    Software

Right above this list is an option to hide/unhide filters.   Hope this helps.

In DIM, select the line your installed product is on, then slide your cursor over to the right until you see a small blue icon with an arrow.  Click on it and it will take you directly to your product in DazStudio (same as Daz Central did).

EDIT:  Oops I misunderstood what they were asking, but hopefully my post may help others.

That filter (and most probably the other ones you don't have anymore) is one of Daz Deals browser add-on Pro features.

Thank you for that info; that explains why I see them while others don't.

Yeah... bummer. They used to be part of the default filters. I had a lot of fun browsing my own library that way.

So happy Daz central was not gotten rid of.  I hated DIM.  I found it overly confusing when central worked for me perfectly.  My only gripe with central is I wish it had a feature to filter model generation types like look at all gen 9 only or gen 8.1 only products.  Since it does not have that I use the large images to find stuff I can't remember the name to and often click to go to the store page if wanting to check something.  Great feature.  Maybe this was all just a test to see if folks actually cared about it? Lol

I don't remember them ever being part of the site's default filters (at least not since we moved to that version of the Daz site years ago). They were regular features of Daz Deals add-on before they introduced the pro subscription though.

    You are correct.

I am 73 years old. I require "reader glasses" on the computer, etc. I have long ago decided to go for a "lower resolution" so I can easily read the computer screens, etc.

I use a 33" LCD TV for the monitor on my home-built computer. I have another, more powerful computer that I use for DAZ Studio. I haven't felt capable of doing art for a long time. But I try to stay in touch and maybe dream a little.

I see DAZ Studio as a tool to make art. I see DIM as a way to get my content installed. I refuse to complicate things by categorizing, etc.

It is only a stay or execution, not a reversal.

DIM shold inherit the Daz Central set-up.

If DIM is to introduce an option to view products as a grid of images (as well as all the other ways that people like) then why on earth have they killed Daz Central before that option is available?

If DIM did that then most of the worries and distress expressed here would be completely averted.

I strongly suggest a stay of execution till this is ready.

Because Central was plagued with problems that were causing DS to have various problems where DIM didn't and doesn't and is much more powerful than Central with a lot more options

Aha! So I'm just remembering Daz Deals before they created the Pro version. Gotcha.

As soon as I can, I'm going pro. They deserve that, and I love that feature! ;)

Nothing has been said about other options, Grid was the main concern and is the only one slated for addition (though we don't know when).

I dont see why theay are upgrading DC. I like it. I'm scared to install DIM for fear of losing DC.

Did I install the correct thing then? The Daz Install Manager 1.4.1.69 doesn't seem to have many features at all other than download and install. It does not even have thumbnails of what you ordered. Do I have the right product?

  • DartanbeckDartanbeck Posts: 21,570

Hit the uppermost check box to select all

    Right-click > Retrieve Thumbnails > All Selected

They don't populate automatically for those who would rather not have them - space reasons, rather just see the list, etc.,

While I prefer DIM it WOULD be nice to have it have an icon or thumbnail repository as when I try to have it fetch thumbs most of the time nothing seems to happen.  It would be nice to have a "system theme" so it copies what ever system theme you have applied as mine is dark with "wolffie" green highlights.  Very easy on my old eyes!

The thumbnails are stored in the folder you set in the Downloads tab of Advanced Settings.

I'm so grateful that Daz Central seems to be hanging on. It's still fully working - whether intentionally or by oversight, I don't know - but I'm so glad that I can keep working in my usual way.

I install everything via DIM and always have - but Central is absolutely the best way to find items or to check what I have quickly.

Just wanted to chime my 2 cents in.  Haven't used Studio in about a year.  Was stunned when I couldn't find Daz Central as a download.  No offence dev's, but DIM blows as a user with 3000 assets.  No way to search by figure, and no easy to see visual.   I found a link to down load Central, and I'm thrilled I can actually SEE what I bought.  If you must go backwards to DIM (the product you said you where replacing with Central) could you PLEASE put in the functionality for casual users that was in Central?

Daz Central was not billed as a repalcement fro DIM, it was the default offering as it was intended to be easier for new users (fewer choices to make) but it was always clear that DIM would continue (and would be required for some things, like the DS betas).

It has been said that a grid view, so you see larger images without having to hover for a tooltip, is on the roadmap.

If you downloaded the Default filters for DIM you should be able to click the funnel icon next to the text box at top-right>Filter By name>Daz 3D>Figures to get a list of "base characters" - it should be possible, in principle, to extend that to cover other items too (though it works on name, so may not be infallible).
