how do you add color to brushes in GIMP?

I am currently using some rons wounds postwork brushes to add to a render using GIMP and have gotten to the point where I have added the effects but how do you actually add color to these brushes to make the full effect? don't they come with color? the whole thing seems pointless if they don't. Is there something I am missing here then if so please let me know how to add color to brushes in GIMP thanks.

I don;t use Gimp so I can't help, someone who uses Gimp may see this thread, so hang on for a while.

Normally brushes in any image editor apply the colour selected from the palette. No brush comes with colour ... picture tubes do.
