Hi there..

Hi everyone :)
Ive been a Daz member for over 10yrs now but just getting back into DazStudio after time away from Poser, Bryce etc and Moving back to the Mac.
Could anyone please tell me where there are some useful tuts on rendering settings, it's driving me nuts! Ive got a file of the old Bonez Skull which I wish to work on and just tried a test render and it's stuck at 93% and has been going for over 40mins! Im not seeing how to set the render settings properly as in the Poser past, it seemed quite simple to add dpi and filesize. What I want to know is how to quickly do a preview and then, how to unlock the aspect ratios and set the size. I typed in 800 pixels high which gave me a setting of Max Samples 9192 and Render Quality of 2 (which I thought would be low and fast?)
Any info would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks :)

So, I waitied for just over an hour! And yet, I saved-out the file as a jpg and it's only 139K? In Photoshop it's 800x800px @72dpi and only 1.8M, I don't understand?
Any advice would be really appreciated :)
Cheers

What were you expecting? I take it that you are using the Iray render engine which is now the default in DAZ Studio since 4.8, but the original 3Delight render engine is also still there, you could try it for a faster preview render?
Where are you seeing a way to set DPI in the Render Settings?
Hi Jimmy, thanks for the reply.
I was saying that you used to be able to set the resolution in the old Poser (if I remember rightly)?
What was I expecting, well, I just set-up a default scene, my first one, no xtra lights or anything, slected 800x800 and hit render. I wasn't expecting an hour but like I said, I'm finding my feet again after quite some time away from it!
I have checked under Engine and it says NVIDIA Iray (as you rightly stated) is selected. If this is the default, which one is used for faster and is this default the best to render-out the scenes? I will try the
Sorry for being such a 'newbie', I'm sure it wont take me too long to get back into it again . .
Thanks for your help :)
[EDIT] OK, just been playing around and selected the 3Delight render engine and wowsa! SO fast, even if I set the filesize to be huge. Very pleased so far.. will have to spend time learning more about the NVIDIA Iray when I have more hours spare but now, I have little time.
This looks very interesting though:

Iray is a unbiased render engine (like Lux or Ozone) and it can take a long time (in some cases) to produce a render, but it is generally more realistic. There is a great deal of information on Iray here : http://www.daz3d.com/forums/discussion/56788/iray-start-here#latest
In the Dimensions, there is a drop-down menu, and you can select 'Custom' and set the render size to what you want. The DPI will depend on the size of the render, if for example, you want a 10 x 8 image at 300 dpi, then set the render to 3000 x 2400, multiply the the render size by the dpi to get the correct size of image.
It all takes time, but some others may have better information for you.
Thanks JimmyC, all really useful :)
