SOLVEDMoving studio to a new computer

i have had a technical problem and have to move my studio to a new computer. I have a fairly complicated file structure in product view that I woul like to preserve. I have backed up the directory and user data but how do I restore my products and file structure? My new computer also has a different drive letter than where studio was installed previously. Is there a guide to d this properly?

  • User data stores only relative paths - the locations of files within the content diectory, not the location of the content diectory itself. Place your folders on the new machine, add the content directories to DS and then go to the Content Library option menu to launch Content DB Maintenance and Re-import metadata.

If you backed up your DIM folders (assuming you install with DIM) the .dsx files for installed content do store the absolute path, so they may be more of a problem (a text editor that can do a batch edit is the usual fix).

It doesn't appear to see any of my content, even though I have it installed in the same location on the new machine. It only sees Studio content if I reinstall it.

What I want to do is import my categories. I don't mind reinstalling the content, but losing my content categories represents weeks of categorization which I would rather not have to redo.

  • Are you sure you have your original content directories, with DS pointing to the folder that holds the Runtime and Data folders as content directories?

By 'backed up the user data' do you mean you exported the user data (under 'content DB maintenance' from either the content library or smart content options menu)?

And have you installed the Postgres database (PostgreSQL CMS) on the new system?

Double-check the directory mappings and then in Content DB Maintenance do a re-import metadata and make sure that the 'user data overrides product data' is checked and that 'userdata 1' (and any other userdata files) is checked before clicking 'accept',
