He's an odd one. Doesn't really seem like a dude named Wang to me!

Like Xiu Lin 9, he looks not quite ready for realism.

fefecoolyellow is making my new Mada withdrawal much easier to bear though.

I'm defs going to have a go at making him look like that.

Underwhelming. He's neither toonish nor realistic. Versatility does not mean lack of character, which Wang 9 clearly lacks character. His anime alternate shape is the only draw, but that does not make him more interesting than Yuzuru 8 or any generation of Lee. His bundles are like throwing in a tattoo (but I have to say it looks nice. Tattoos done correctly, finally) in a remake of the Yuzuru 8 bundles. Even DAZ tokens expiring this Sunday is not going to make me buy Wang 9 bundles

I read him as biracial. I like his face.

But his proportions look very awkward to me. His head is too small for once (usually DAZ characters tend to be bobble heads) and his elongated face doesn't fit his blocky body. Also, his body just seems kinda... "undersculpted"? idk

It might be his grandfather who is biracial.

To me, he looks like a multitude of men of Eurasian descent around the San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle, or Vancouver.

Well, yes. A nondescript, pretty anime boy who has strayed into the 'real' world... Certainly quite good for making all those tough, wrinkly blokes in the Genesis 9 core line look a bit more pleasant. Judging by the promos, Wang 9 is mainly suitable for the G9 gen pool.

That was my first reaction too.

The outfits look good, but otherwise this bundle doesn't seem like a 'must-have' to me.

He looks like a white dude costplaying. Which would be fine if that was what they were going for and advertising him as. He doesn't look anime and he doesn't look Asian, which is what the advertising seems to indicate. White Otaku or The Gamer would have been better names for this figure.

Edit: Nvm - realized part of the discount was coming from a previous offer, and having checked out with that one already, I'm not paying the new price of $40.32 for the bundle and textures, especially without the usual inclusion of the additional licenses. Daz sales are too complicated - it's annoying.

Or $67.18 without tokens. With 8 tokens and 3 (unwanted) texture addons the Bundle is $30.57 plus $3.25 each for the addons. Definitely too pricey for me. Has anybody been able to get a better price?

  • I got the bundle down to $24.46 - I think due to the 20% off from https://www.daz3d.com/a-day-of-magical-creatures. Still debating, I don't care much for the character but the rest of the bundle looks super useful.  Most of the G9 guys recently look too plastic-y for my taste, but mix ok with the better ones.

Pancake pecs and a garment with an unrealistic collar - expected for a G9M figure and bundle. Probably makes an interesting female character, though.

He reminds me of the Japanese singer Gackt in his heyday (which is making me feel old now), but could be any of the Visual Kei type singers from 'back in the day.' Kinda wish he'd come with some appropriate makeup. If you've ever seen the movie Bunraku, with Josh Hartnett, Gackt played Yoshi.

Trying to render him now, but the newest DS is so slow for some reason.

$19.91 with 3 textures, 8 tokens, the Daz+ coupon and the 20% off cart deal from https://www.daz3d.com/a-day-of-magical-creatures. ;  I've already acquired what I wanted from that day's stuff, though, so $26.02 without it.

I think DAZ messed up though, this link https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-ready-to-wear-outfit-texture-add-on take me to this page: https://www.daz3d.com/dforce-street-fashion-outfit-for-genesis-9 which is hardly the right page!  LMAO

Driver update needed, so it is rendering on CPU?

It's rendering on CPU, but it's not the driver's fault. I updated to the newest NVidia Studio driver when it came out and it worked just fine before the update. (Windows 11, RTX 3050) And, if anything, even the CPU rendering is slower now. 1h26m for 630 iterations: one G9 (subd3), Yuan Hair, Smart Style jacket, nothing else.

A little of this, a little of that...

First off, let me say I really, REALLY dislike his default eyebrows. It's the one thing that makes him look the most fake and toony (if you're looking for realism). His skin is kinda featureless as well. Otherwise, he's not that bad with a little 'tweaking' ;) He still looks biracial though (which doesn't bother me).

Your retouches/render is giving off major Barry Keoghan vibes right now.  Very nicely done!  If Wang 9 looked this good, it would have been an instant buy.

  • Not a fan at all of this whole buy the pro bundle to get the alternate shapes. All I want is him and the toon shape. There's nothing wrong with the stuff in the pro bundle, it all looks good, I just don't need any of it.

this is by far the best render I've seen of him

I think that's a photo. If it's not, it's one of the best renders I've seen too ;)

You did more than a little tweaking I suspect. He looks much better. Thanks for the heads up on the brows.

That's a very generous set of tweaks!

    His skin is baby smooth.

Switched out eyebrows and eyelashes, but that's his skin in all it's ... even-ness.

I don't think I would use him by himself without a lot of tweaks, but that's usually how I roll anyhow. Skin mught be ok for a tween?

A young male is what that skin screams to me. I changed his eyebrows and eyes out for Casey's and gave him the facial scruff from Redz' Kaz. This make me think of a 90s Boy Band member or a 21st C Asian one. But the men in my family line have all had problems growing hair with Native American ancestry on both sides when they were in their teens and twenties.

I could see this character being very nice for the ladies or young boys/tweens in general. Add blemishes as you need them from other packages.

A note about the clothes. I have been asking for the PAs to look at current clothing and project forward into the future. I think these three sets did a great job of it. So I wanted to express my appreciation for them listening (reading) to our requests. The Ready to Wear Outfit, as did the Two-Block hair simulated without issue.

All the promo renders have eyeliner and mascara and some even seem to have lipstick although I don't see makeup listed. I would rather a male without default makeup. Seems like an interesting toon/stylized character otherwise but I don't really need more males. I wish they didn't limit the alternate shapes to buying the pro bundles at release though because they are the most interesting things about the character and I'm not interested enough to buy the whole bundle.

  • It seems that the second male anatomical element material is missing for me? Is anyone else having this problem?

I had the bundle and textures in cart for $32.26, but I thought I'd have another couple days to decide, so I removed them and checked out with the Magical Creatures and Forgotten Tombs deals (thinking the earlier deal could end tonight). Then I realized part of the discount for the bundle was coming from Magical Creatures. Annoying.

Daz should end the Magical Creatures deal when the store turns over and post one of those all-day coupons for 20-30% off new releases. The bundle is okay-ish but too expensive without the MC discount. Feels like it's priced with the MC promo in mind, but some (like me) will have already used that offer.
